Overijssel Camping Guide: River Valleys, Heath & Wetland Walks

Overijssel camping can centre on the Vecht countryside, with a separate excursion to Salland’s wooded hills or the western wetlands. This guide uses Loozen as a rural base. Match your walking day to the overnight location; Giethoorn and a Vecht campsite are not the same destination.

Overijssel camping: nature and marked routes

The Sallandse Heuvelrug visitor centre provides a starting point for forest and heath outings. Use the current route information and check access before travelling. The regional route guide links the wider Regge and hill landscapes with village and heritage stops.

For a different wetland trip, consider Weerribben-Wieden. Canoe travel requires its own equipment, route and weather plan. Do not substitute a reedbank for an authorized pitch. There is no coastal beach itinerary in this province.

Camping in the destination

Minicamping ’t Loozerveld at Roskampweg 5, Loozen, offers a paid rural pitch near the Vecht route. Confirm tent, caravan or motorhome acceptance, vehicle dimensions and current seasonal opening.

For an overnight closer to a different park, book accommodation at that park’s own access area. A Loozen booking only covers the booked campsite; it does not authorize sleeping along a nature trail.

Nearby free camping: verified limits

No free, authorized overnight tent location was verified near the chosen Vecht base. Use a paid campsite or obtain the relevant manager’s explicit approval. Canoe-camping arrangements elsewhere in Overijssel must be checked separately for charges, access and eligibility.

’t Loozerveld lists a two-person pitch at €26 per night, described as all-in. It separately offers walkers and cyclists a small tent place without electricity for €13 per night. Ask how many guests that smaller arrangement includes and what sanitary and tax provisions apply.

The operator lists additional guests at €6 and dogs at €1. Confirm the complete quote, season, water, showers and arrival conditions. Do not apply the walker tariff to a car-and-family-tent booking.

Restaurants and cultural visits

Restaurant and ice-cream stop Ekkelenkamp in Ommen is a food option on a Vecht-area excursion. The park’s dining guide lists Hoog Holten for a hill-area meal. Check current menus and reserve if needed.

The regional visit planner includes Historical Museum Ommen. Natuurmuseum Holterberg appears in the regional route guide and complements a southern Salland outing. Choose culture near that day’s walk, rather than crossing the province for every stop.

Travel times, season and necessary gear

Spring to early autumn generally suits tent and cycle trips. From Loozen estimate 25–35 km / 30–45 minutes to Ommen, 40–55 km / 45–65 minutes to the Hellendoorn area and 70–90 km / 75–100 minutes to Giethoorn. These are broad road estimates; walks and boat arrangements add time.

Carry rainwear, maps, water, an insulated mat and a sleeping bag suited to overnight lows. Use a serviced motorhome pitch and confirm disposal facilities. For canoe outings, book the appropriate craft and buoyancy equipment and check return arrangements before launching.

Sources and published tariffs checked October 13, 2026. Distances and times are broad planning estimates. Confirm current permission, opening dates, route conditions and the full booking price before travel.
