North Holland camping offers mainland lake shores, dune walks and island excursions with different access plans. This guide uses De Kampeertuin near Hoorn and Enkhuizen as a mainland base. A Texel outing needs its own ferry and transport arrangements; it is not a short walk from the campsite.
North Holland camping: coast, dunes and water
For a nearby mainland day, choose a marked walk or cycle ride around the Hoorn–Enkhuizen countryside and water-side towns. Respect agricultural access and signed waterside paths. The province’s tourism information links local visitor organizations for current routes.
The Dunes of Texel guide introduces forest, sand and coastal nature areas, with Ecomare as a natural-history complement. Treat Texel as a separate full-day or overnight destination and follow the island’s marked access routes.
An authorized mainland campsite
De Kampeertuin offers touring pitches for tents with cars, caravans and motorhomes. Confirm equipment fit and use the designated car park. The operator does not allow dogs and does not provide Wi-Fi.
Its published 2026 season ran March 15–October 1. Confirm next-season availability before planning an October tent stay. A campsite pitch does not include permission on a lake shore, dune or island beach.
Nearby free camping: permission and availability
No free authorized tent pitch was verified for this mainland itinerary. Quiet shore access or an empty dune car park should not be treated as overnight approval. Ask the land manager for any specific approved arrangement or use a bookable campsite.
North Holland camping prices: dated example
De Kampeertuin lists a two-person pitch with tent and car, caravan and car, or camper at €26.50 per night, including electricity, showers and VAT. Tourist tax is €1.70 per person per night, so two adults total €29.90.
Its small-tent walking/cycling category is €22.40 for two people before tax. Confirm the selected equipment allowance, arrival window and final total. Tariffs are 2026 references, not a guaranteed next-season quote.
Museum dining and maritime history
In Enkhuizen, Zuiderzeemuseum’s food page lists lunch at Restaurant het Amsterdamse Huis and café options. Plan food as part of the museum visit and check which venues operate with the open-air museum season.
The Zuiderzeemuseum visitor page provides practical access for a maritime-heritage day. Check the appropriate entrance, boat or parking arrangements and the indoor/open-air opening schedules. Ecomare suits a separate Texel nature trip.
Season, ferry logistics and equipment
Late spring and summer offer long daylight, but coastal wind can persist. From the camping area estimate roughly 10–20 km / 15–30 minutes to Enkhuizen or Hoorn, depending on the exact route. The Den Helder ferry approach may be around 65–85 km / 65–95 minutes by road, followed by waiting, the ferry crossing and island travel.
Bring windproof and waterproof layers, warm sleeping equipment, maps and water. Use suitable pegs only on your assigned pitch. Do not schedule Texel, two mainland museums and a long dune walk on the same day. Confirm campsite and ferry rules for your motorhome, bicycle or pet before booking.
Sources and published tariffs checked October 13, 2026. Distances and times are broad planning estimates. Confirm current permission, opening dates, route conditions and the full booking price before travel.
