Chișinău and Codrii camping works best as a trip with two separate bases: time in the capital for supplies and museums, followed by a reserved rural stay for forest walks. This guide covers the Republic of Moldova, rather than the historic Moldavia region of Romania.
Nature: city lakes, forest trails and Bălănești Hill
Start with Valea Morilor and the Ștefan cel Mare Public Garden in Chișinău. These green spaces suit a relaxed walking day before leaving the city. Treat them as places to visit; this guide does not identify them as authorized overnight campsites. See the Moldova Travel city guide for park and museum listings.
For a forest excursion, the Codrii reserve administration describes an approximately 5 km ecotourism trail near Lozova. Contact the Codrii administration for access arrangements and the starting point. Plaiul Fagului near Rădenii Vechi is another forest destination. Bălănești Hill, listed at 429 m by Moldova Travel, offers a different outing through an agricultural landscape.
Where to stay: paid camping and glamping
Pe Toloacă in Milești, Nisporeni district lists furnished bell tents, an area for guests bringing their own tents, shared bathrooms and a shared kitchen. Reserve the accommodation type explicitly: a furnished tent reservation does not establish the price of a pitch for your own equipment.
Price check, 17 October 2026: the listing still labels its detailed tariff as the 2025 season: 1,000 MDL for a two-person bell tent Monday–Thursday and 1,500 MDL Friday–Sunday and public holidays. These are historical advertised prices, not a verified 2026 quotation. Request the current total, breakfast terms and cancellation policy. The own-tent pitch rate was not verified.
For caravans or motorhomes, obtain confirmation of vehicle length limits, firm access, electrical connections and wastewater disposal before booking. The listing’s free parking is not evidence of a serviced motorhome pitch. For reserve visits, use the agreed visitor route and confirm any separate admission or guiding fee.
Free camping and permission
No named, officially authorized free overnight site with verified permit and stay-limit information was established for this guide. Do not build an itinerary around an unconfirmed clearing or car park. Ask the landowner or site administrator about the exact pitch, dates, fee, facilities and permitted length of stay; use paid accommodation if permission cannot be established. A daytime walking route does not establish overnight access.
Restaurants, museums and cultural stops
In Chișinău, La Plăcinte at 100 Mitropolit Dosoftei Street serves traditional Moldovan food and pies; Acasă la Mama at 59 Petru Rareș Street is another traditional-food option. Both appear in the city tourism directory linked above. Check opening hours before leaving your rural base.
For an indoor day, choose the National Museum of History or the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in the capital. In the wider central region, consider Manuc Bey Palace in Hîncești or the Rustic Art crafts complex in Clișova Nouă. These are separate outings, so select one near your overnight base instead of trying to combine every stop.
Practical planning and a suggested stay
Allow one city day and two rural nights. Spend your first rural afternoon setting up, devote the next morning to one confirmed forest trail, and keep the afternoon flexible. Ask Pe Toloacă for the exact driving distance and expected time to your chosen reserve entrance; the central region is too broad for one campsite-to-trail estimate to be reliable.
For comfortable walking, consider late spring or early autumn and check the local forecast. Carry drinking water, closed shoes, rain protection, insect repellent, a headlamp and an offline map. Keep a dry change of clothes for camp. Before using any stove or grill, obtain the host’s current fire instructions.
Continue with our Romania camping guide if your trip crosses the western border. Border formalities and campsite reservations need separate planning.
Research checked 17 October 2026. Operator availability and dated tariffs require reconfirmation before travel.
