Gelderland Camping Guide: Veluwe Forests, Heath & Loenen Falls

Gelderland camping offers forest and heath days on the Veluwe, with waterfalls and heritage outings as separate excursions. This guide uses a serviced Ede-area campsite. Keep driving and walking time distinct when planning Loenen or a museum visit; a provincial map can hide a substantial road journey.

Gelderland camping: Veluwe and Loenen

Walk or cycle the marked routes around the Veluwe countryside, using the campsite’s local route advice for a first day. For a waterfall excursion, the Loenense Waterval tourism point links walking landscapes with the historic watermill route. This is a stream-and-woodland outing rather than a mountain expedition.

The land manager’s waterfall guide gives another route-planning starting point. Use permitted paths and keep away from sensitive banks. Different Veluwe areas have their own entry and access conditions.

Camping at a serviced nature base

Camping Zuid Ginkel near Ede lists car-free touring pitches suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Confirm your vehicle fit and parking arrangement. A booked pitch is the overnight base; it does not extend to woodland or waterfall banks.

The operator’s 2026 camping season is April 1–September 30. Confirm future opening dates and any special holiday booking requirements before relying on this base outside that period.

Nearby free camping and permissions

No currently free, authorized tent pitch was verified for this Ede-to-Loenen itinerary. Use the operator’s camping arrangements or obtain the actual land manager’s approval for another site. A nature trailhead or forest parking area is not a verified free campsite.

Zuid Ginkel lists a two-person touring pitch at €27 per night including warm water and showers, but excluding electricity (€3.90) and tourist tax (€1.70 per person). Two adults therefore start at €30.40, or €34.30 with electricity; the listed reservation administration fee is €4.50.

A two-person tent-and-bicycle shelter pitch is €20 before tax and electricity and cannot be reserved. Ask about eligibility and availability. Special holiday periods may require a package instead of individual nights.

Restaurants, mills and village heritage

Bistro de Bron in Loenen offers lunch and dinner; its route page pairs meals with local walking and cycling. Confirm service times and the exact starting point.

The watermills itinerary includes the Middelste Molen paper mill and museum. Pair this with the waterfall rather than a second distant park. Check museum access and current demonstrations directly before travelling.

Season, distances and walking equipment

May through September generally provides convenient camping weather, but nights can still be cool. From the Ede base estimate 35–50 km / 40–60 minutes to the Loenen waterfall area. Village or mill stops need additional local travel; verify the actual route and parking before departure.

Pack rain layers, water, offline maps, a headlamp, good footwear and warm sleeping equipment. Stay on marked trails, give wildlife space and follow the latest dog instructions. Motorhomes need a pitch and disposal arrangement suited to their dimensions. Plan a relaxed waterfall-and-mill day rather than assuming all Veluwe attractions are neighbours.

Sources and published tariffs checked October 13, 2026. Distances and times are broad planning estimates. Confirm current permission, opening dates, route conditions and the full booking price before travel.
