This Vienna camping guide combines Danube recreation areas, waterside food and an easy city-culture day. Use the authorized base below for a regional stay with time for nature, local food and culture. All prices are in euros; research and published tariffs were checked on 16 October 2026.
Vienna camping guide: nature and routes
Use the Danube-side setting for walking and cycling around the Donauinsel and nearby recreation areas. Keep a river outing separate from a city museum day so that neither becomes rushed. The operator describes access to the Danube Cycle Path and proximity to the Old Danube, Prater and Lobau. Follow marked routes in protected areas and check current water conditions before considering a swim; a camping pitch does not establish permission to camp elsewhere along the river.
Authorized camping and checked tariffs
MICAMPA Wien Donau publishes its 2026 season as 7 April–31 October. Advertised starting prices are €22.50 per night for a tent pitch including one adult, and €50 for a caravan pitch including two adults. These are date-dependent from prices, not a confirmed total for an arbitrary party or arrival. The operator describes power connections on its base vehicle pitches and lists water, sanitation and disposal facilities. Confirm electricity consumption charges, applicable taxes, extra people and the final category-specific total in the booking quote. Do not infer a two-adult tent total from the one-adult starting price.
Confirm the complete charge for your party, equipment and dates before booking. Check reception times, pitch dimensions, seasonal services and any minimum stay. Published examples do not guarantee availability.
Free overnight camping
No specific free authorized overnight site has been verified for this itinerary. Use the established campsite, or confirm permission with the relevant local authority and landowner before choosing another location. A scenic parking area or picnic site does not by itself establish permission to camp.
Restaurant and local food
For a waterside meal, Vienna’s official Old Danube guide recommends the Alte Kaisermühle for fish and lists other nearby restaurants serving Viennese specialities. Plan this as a distinct stop around the Old Danube rather than assuming it is inside the campsite. Check the restaurant’s current opening days and menu before walking over or reserving.
Culture beyond the campsite
Choose the Kunsthistorisches Museum at Maria-Theresien-Platz for a substantial indoor visit. Consult the museum’s current programme and ticket information, then leave time for a city-centre walk. One major museum and a relaxed meal make a more realistic day than trying to cross several large collections.
Practical itinerary and access
The campsite operator points visitors towards U2 at Donaustadtbrücke and describes central sightseeing as accessible in about 20 minutes by this connection. Allow extra time for walking, waiting and your exact destination, and check the current route before departure. For rough orientation, central stops are several kilometres away, approximately 8–12 km depending on the route. Public transport avoids planning city-centre motorhome parking. A two- or three-night stay gives one nature day and one cultural day; reconfirm October’s closing date before a late arrival.
Bring waterproof clothing, suitable walking shoes, water, warm bedding, a torch and an offline route map. Check weather and local notices before a longer outing. Use designated waste and wastewater facilities, respect quiet hours and follow current fire restrictions.
