Tasmania camping offers a useful starting point for planning designated overnight stays, natural places and cultural visits in Australia. This guide introduces selected sites within Tasmania; it does not catalogue every town or campground. Use the named manager’s current booking information to choose the right pitch and dates.
Tasmania camping: nature and activities
Three Falls Circuit is listed as a 6km circuit taking about 2–2.5 hours, Grade 3, with steps and some steep sections. Choose an appropriate walk using current alerts. The upper Lake Dobson road is a separate winding gravel approach, unsuitable for campervans and buses according to the park; do not assume campground access means upper-road suitability.
Paid camping and facilities
Mount Field camping accepts tents, campervans and caravans near the visitor centre. Until November 2, 2026, published two-person nightly rates are A$16 unpowered and A$20 powered, with extra-person charges. From November 3, rates become A$24 per unpowered site/night and A$35 powered, maximum six people. The maximum stay is 14 days. Toilets, showers, a communal kitchen shelter and electric barbecues are listed. The campground is fuel-stove-only, with no campfires. The page says first come, first served, with a booking system due in late 2026; check the latest process before travel.
Free camping and maximum stay
Camping charges and any required parks pass need separate checks. No free alternative with fully verified present conditions was established here. Do not assume a national-park picnic area permits overnight stays, or apply Mount Field’s stay limit to another reserve.
Tents, cars and motorhomes
Book the actual camping product for your equipment. Check stand dimensions, power, accessible facilities and waste disposal before travelling with a caravan or motorhome. Ordinary vehicle entry does not establish permission to sleep in a car, and an unpowered pitch does not include tent rental. Confirm any equipment hire separately.
Culture and interpretation
Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart offers art, cultural collections and natural-history interpretation. It is a separate city visit, not a facility within Mount Field campground. Check current opening and exhibitions and allow a distinct transport plan.
Restaurants and supplies
The official Three Falls page identifies privately operated Waterfalls Cafe at the visitor centre. The state tourism listing describes local ingredients, burgers, soups and seasonal dishes. Confirm current hours and dietary needs; no meal price is guaranteed. Carry provisions for your planned walks and overnight stay.
Season, distances and equipment
The lower forest campground and upper alpine areas need different weather preparation. Check road conditions, snow and closures before attempting Lake Dobson. Take waterproof clothing, warm layers, suitable footwear and lighting. Seasonal fire restrictions can apply beyond the campground’s permanent fuel-stove-only rule; consult the current parks alerts.
Dated sources and booking checks
Research checked October 28, 2026. Prices are in Australian dollars and depend on the stated product, age group and dates. Reconfirm the final quote, park entry, extra occupants and any concession eligibility before paying. Read the Australia camping weather and fire-information sources and the local manager’s latest alerts before departure.
Carry suitable footwear, sun protection, lighting, weather layers and the supplies required by your booking. Keep wildlife wild, respect other campers and use approved waste facilities. Follow local signs and access closures; a reservation is not permission to enter a closed track.
