This South Korea camping guide connects 17 travel-area guides, from Seoul’s riverfront pitches to forest and island bases. Choose a named campground and confirm the actual overnight product before adding day trips. A scenic park, free parking lot or beach is not automatically an authorized campsite.
How this directory is organized
The directory uses familiar travel-area names, not a claim that all 17 entries are separate current administrative governments. Gwangju and Jeonnam merged into Jeonnam–Gwangju in July 2026; they remain separate travel guides here to keep city, forest and coastal routes manageable. Official tourism listings now use the merged name.

South Korea camping guide: choose your camping style
Ordinary tent pitches, walk-in decks, auto-camping, owner-supplied caravan sites, rental caravans and glamping are distinct products. A furnished unit may include equipment that a tent pitch does not. Confirm bedding, cooking items, water, showers, electricity and vehicle access for the exact unit. In particular, an auto-camping label is not proof of full motorhome hookups.
Published prices: useful examples, not national rates
The regional articles link the underlying sources. Seoul’s Nanji city page lists ordinary camping examples of KRW 15,000–20,000 per pitch per night, depending on type and capacity. Jaraseom’s tourism listing gives weekday and weekend auto-camping categories. Other forests publish deck fees, while several locations require a direct quote. These are different products; there is no single South Korean camping tariff.
Where to book
Use the KNPS foreign-visitor reservation service for applicable national-park campgrounds, Foresttrip for participating recreational forests, or the municipal/private operator linked in the regional article. Korea Tourism Organization’s Go Camping provides campground discovery. A directory entry does not hold a site for you. Check guest identification, foreign-card acceptance, cancellation terms and booking windows before choosing non-refundable transport.
Free camping and rules
None of the regional guides promises an unverified free overnight site. A site described as a “free camping zone” may mean open-layout camping rather than zero cost: Nanji’s lawn category has a published fee. Free admission and parking also do not cancel an overnight charge. Follow the operator’s designated area, waste disposal, cooking and quiet-hour rules.
Build routes around actual bases
Use Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi as different metropolitan-area choices; Gangwon for an eastern forest or coast itinerary; Chungcheong and Sejong for inland stages; Jeonbuk and Jeonnam–Gwangju for distinct southwestern routes; and Gyeongsang, Busan and Ulsan for southeast stages. Jeju is a separate island journey. Do not label a restaurant or museum “near the campsite” merely because it is in the same province.
South Korea camping guide: seasons and equipment
Choose equipment for the booked site’s forecast and elevation. Forest fire controls, intense rain, river flooding, high wind and winter shutdowns can change both camping and walking plans. Check the actual closure notice and cancellation terms before leaving. Carry a suitable tent and sleep system where gear is not supplied, plus waterproof layers, lighting and the drinking-water supply confirmed by the host.
Food and culture
Each regional guide links a documented restaurant or food venue and a cultural stop. Use them to build a separate food-and-museum day when they are far from the camping base. Confirm opening times and dietary needs independently. A national-park reservation does not automatically include a temple, garden, museum or summit permit.
Sources and verification limits
Editorial review: October 25, 2026, using the original October 22 draft and updated public sources. The directory links 17 guides with destination-specific official tourism, municipal and campground references. Published fees are clearly distinguished from prices not confirmed. No live availability, first-hand inspection or exact road transfer time is claimed. Recheck the chosen operator’s current page before payment.
Current access and official availability
Read current official travel advice for South Korea and the local closure notices before departure. Confirm campground operation, visitor eligibility, reservations and services through the official operator. A published listing is not a live vacancy or an assurance that every trail is open.
