Central Sava Camping Guide, Slovenia: Nature and Practical Tips

Central Sava camping offers a starting point for exploring Litija, the Sava River and mining heritage. This guide focuses on one practical base and nearby outings within Slovenia’s Zasavska statistical region, with costs, food and cultural planning.

Checked October 16, 2026. Published seasonal dates and tariffs are dated references. Confirm operation and the full booking total for your actual stay.

Central Sava camping: choose your base

Paternoster homestead, Tenetiše: The Heart of Slovenia development centre lists Paternoster homestead at Tenetiše 1 near Litija for motorhomes and tent pitching. The farm also produces cheese. Confirm present operation, pitch availability, sanitary facilities and vehicle access before arrival.

Camping prices and reservations

A current numerical paid-pitch tariff was not verified. Ask the farm to itemise your party, equipment, power and taxes. A meal or cheese tasting is not automatically part of the overnight price. Check the operator’s information.

Before payment, confirm the dimensions of your tent or vehicle, pitch access, the people included and cancellation conditions. Ask separately about drinking-water filling, waste disposal and electricity capacity. Facilities for prepared accommodation should not be assumed available to every touring pitch.

Nature and cultural visits

Use the Litija area for a manageable Sava landscape outing. Choose established walking and cycling routes and check whether a proposed path includes road traffic. The riverbank should not be treated as an unregulated place to camp.

Sitarjevec mine and the City Museum of Litija provide context for the town’s mining and transport heritage. Book the intended mine visit and check equipment and access requirements before setting out. Official visitor information.

Where to eat

Paternoster can arrange homemade food experiences according to the local tourism itinerary. For another meal, the Heart of Slovenia directory lists Inn Pri Rozi at Jelša 19, Šmartno pri Litiji, with daily lunches and à la carte dishes. Confirm food service separately. Dining information.

Distances and a realistic day plan

Tenetiše is a local Litija-area base; allow a short local transfer for town visits and check the exact mine meeting point. Routes farther east to Trbovlje need separate driving time rather than being treated as adjacent stops.

Keep the first day flexible for arrival and setting up. On the next day, choose one main outdoor outing and leave enough time for meals and the return journey. Check opening hours before adding a museum to the same day.

Free camping and overnight permissions

The official TIC Litija page describes a free camper stop at Tenis club AS by the Sava in central Litija. This is a motorhome stop, not verified free tent camping. Contact the host on +386 1 8980800 to confirm the current fee, permitted stay, registration and service charges. The listing does not establish an unlimited stay or free electricity. Read the tourism-office listing.

Season and equipment

Match travel dates to the campsite’s confirmed season. Spring and autumn may suit lower-level walks, while Alpine and underground visits need their own clothing and conditions checks. Carry rain protection, layers, sturdy footwear, water and a first-aid kit. Follow current fire restrictions and the host’s cooking rules.

Compare the regions in our Slovenia camping guide before deciding how many bases your available days can comfortably support.
