Lake Ohrid camping offers several different base choices on the North Macedonia shore. A pitch near Ohrid, one towards Struga and a southern lakeside stay can lead to very different holidays. Choose the part of the lake you want to explore before comparing individual camps.
Our North Macedonia camping guide puts this stage within a wider route. This page covers the North Macedonia side of the lake; accommodation on the Albanian shore involves a separate country and border plan.
Choose your Lake Ohrid camping area
An Ohrid-area base can suit travellers who want time in the old town alongside lake activities. Ask about the actual walking route or transfer into town. The distance measured along the shore is not always the journey you will make.
For Struga and nearby shore villages, compare the approach, beach access and town connection. A quieter-looking map location may still have seasonal music or busy roads. Ask the host about the atmosphere during your intended dates.
A southern base can reduce travel for selected lakeside outings. However, it may be less convenient for repeated evenings in Ohrid or Struga. Choose a base around your main interest rather than trying to visit the whole shoreline every day.
Campsite leads to investigate
The national tourism portal lists established lake camping names including Livadište and Ljubaništa. Its camping directory is a starting point, not a live booking system. Reconfirm opening dates, contacts and the type of pitch on offer.
The Camper Stop Kj Divono operator website provides another Ohrid-area lead. Some information displayed there refers to an earlier season, so request a current quote and facilities list. These mentions are not a ranking or a claim of personal inspection.
Separate lake days and old-town visits
Give Ohrid a dedicated visit rather than fitting it into a rushed transfer day. Check attraction opening hours and leave time for the walking involved. Ask about suitable parking or public transport before taking a large vehicle towards narrow historic streets.
For a lake day, establish where water access is permitted and whether there is a supervised swimming area. Follow local advice and the conditions on the day. Confirm equipment and weather policies directly for kayaking, sailing or boat trips.
A mountain outing in Galičica needs its own route and access check. Do not treat a shore campsite booking as permission to camp within the national park. Keep the next morning flexible if the forecast changes.
Lake Ohrid camping booking checklist
- Confirm tent, caravan or motorhome acceptance and the exact pitch category.
- Ask about shade, ground surface, drainage and distance to facilities.
- Check drinking water, electricity and separate waste disposal services.
- Confirm any beach access rules and whether roads must be crossed.
- Request a complete price and written arrival instructions.
Ask whether a listing refers to a touring pitch or a seasonal caravan area. A rented bungalow is also a different product from a place for your own tent. Clear descriptions avoid an unsuitable reservation.
A relaxed three-night lake stage
Use the arrival evening to settle in. Dedicate one day to the town that interests you most and another to the lake or a booked activity. Add extra nights if you also want Struga, southern shore visits and a full mountain day.
Return to the country camping guide to compare Prespa, Bitola or your onward border stage. Avoid adding a demanding walk just before a long departure drive.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use one base for the entire lake?
You can choose one base, but prioritise a few outings and check each transfer. Moving camps may be more comfortable on a longer stay.
Does a lakeside location guarantee full motorhome services?
No. Confirm potable water, electricity and both grey-water and chemical-toilet disposal individually before booking.
