Normandy Camping Guide: Cotentin Coast, Estuaries & Culture

Normandy camping offers estuaries, long beaches, wooded countryside and history-rich towns. For a quieter western-coast example, use Geffosses as a base for the havre and nearby villages. Keep Étretat, the Seine valley and the D-Day coast as separate stages rather than daily drives across the region.

Departments covered by this regional guide

Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne and Seine-Maritime.

Natural places to visit

The Havre de Geffosses is a small estuary linking Geffosses and Anneville-sur-Mer. Choose the signed discovery route and respect wildlife restrictions. Nearby beaches and Coutances’ surrounding countryside provide shorter alternatives to a long road day.

For a broader itinerary, add the Cotentin landscapes, Suisse Normande or Seine-valley walks from closer overnight bases. A marsh, tidal channel or cliff viewpoint is not automatically an authorized camping site.

Camping inside the destination

Camping municipal Les Vanneaux is an established Geffosses option near the sea. Contact the manager for exact operating dates, a suitable touring pitch and arrival conditions. Daytime access to the estuary does not grant permission to camp within its natural habitat.

Nearby free camping and authorized bivouac

No specifically authorized free serviced tent site was verified for this Geffosses base. Obtain an answer for a named location from the municipality or land manager, including the maximum stay. A beach car park, low-tide sandbank or ordinary forest clearing should not be presented as a free campground.

The municipality’s 2026 rate list gives adults at €2.50, a tent at €2 and a vehicle at €1. Two adults with a tent and ordinary car therefore total €8 before electricity and any applicable tax or other charges. Electricity is €5. A motorhome equipment line is €12; ask which occupant charges apply to it.

Laundry is listed separately. Double-axle caravans are excluded because of ground and campsite-size constraints. Confirm showers, potable water, touring-vehicle disposal, electrical connection and the complete total before booking; a mobile-home rental is a different product.

Restaurants, museums and cultural stops

La Cale in Blainville-sur-Mer is a nearby coastal restaurant option; check its current menu, opening and reservations. In Coutances, the Musée Quesnel-Morinière offers art and local collections in a historic house, alongside a cathedral and town visit.

For a longer regional journey, allocate dedicated days to wartime heritage, Rouen or Bayeux. Museum entry, guided visits and site parking have separate conditions from the camping pitch.

Best season, access, distances and equipment

From Les Vanneaux, estimate roughly 2–5 km / 5–15 minutes to the chosen havre or beach access, 10–18 km / 15–30 minutes toward Blainville-sur-Mer and around 15–22 km / 20–35 minutes to Coutances. Verify the exact local roads and parking, then add walking time.

Late spring to early autumn usually suits ordinary tent camping. Bring windproof layers, rain gear, sturdy shoes, drinking water and tide information. Estuary conditions can change quickly; use signed paths and an organized guide for a tidal crossing.

Reviewed October 13, 2026. Prices are dated published references, not guaranteed quotes. Driving distances and times are broad planning estimates from the stated base; add walking time and confirm current routes, seasonal opening, permissions and booking conditions.
