This Nigeria camping guide brings together all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Use the directory to research natural places, cultural heritage and overnight arrangements. It is not a list of 37 confirmed campgrounds, nor does it claim that every destination is currently appropriate for leisure travel.
Start with travel advice and health information
Read the current official Nigeria advisory, regional restrictions and health information before choosing a route. Review date: October 28, 2026. The main advisory and its regional page can differ; apply the stricter relevant warning and seek clarification rather than treating the discrepancy as permission to travel.

How to use the overnight information
Check each guide’s evidence limits. A historical park brochure can establish that a facility was described, but it cannot establish current staffing, an open gate, tent acceptance or a valid tariff. Ask the responsible manager about your exact dates before making a commitment.
Free camping, permits and stay limits
This series does not establish a nationwide right to wild camp. It also does not verify an authorized free overnight stop for each state. Treat beaches, sacred landscapes, forest reserves and riverbanks as places with their own managers and restrictions. Absence of a published fee is not evidence that access is free.
Paid camping and accurate budgets
Separate a managed tent pitch from a lodge room, a supplied-tent package and an organized group camp. Ask for a dated quote specifying admission, equipment, guide, meals, transport and cancellation terms. Confirm motorhome access separately. See the FCT guide for a published organized-camp price and its limitations.
Restaurants, museums and cultural visits
The local guides identify cultural research leads and clearly flag restaurant information that remains unverified. They do not invent venues, operating hours or menu prices. Book directly with a confirmed host or custodian, ask for a current venue link and obtain permission for photographs and demonstrations.
Season, access and equipment
Pick one geographical area before comparing accommodation. Do not turn a national list into a continuous road itinerary. Weather, seasonal roads, security restrictions and attraction closures can change the feasibility of a visit. Get distances from a real booked address to the exact entrance; generic city-to-city figures do not resolve the final approach.
Bring equipment suited to the confirmed activity. For any lawful tent stay, establish water, sanitation, waste arrangements and overnight staffing first. For a day visit, agree the meeting point and return arrangements before departure. If essential access information cannot be verified, postpone that outing.
Sources and availability
The series uses Visit Nigeria’s destination profiles for geographical and cultural leads and links additional operators or conservation bodies where relevant. These links provide evidence and contacts, not an endorsement or a promise of current availability.
