Mozambique camping offers several documented park-based options, but the accommodation product and the location matter. This collection covers all ten provinces plus Maputo city, linking eleven regional guides. Some pages identify named camping leads; others explain where a pitch has not been verified or where travel warnings make the page a reference rather than a leisure recommendation.
Mozambique camping: start with the right accommodation
An own-tent pitch, a furnished safari tent, a chalet and a hostel bed are different bookings. Ask a host to state which one is being offered. A name containing camp does not prove that personal tents are accepted, and a picture of a beach does not establish permission to sleep there. Use the regional evidence before choosing equipment or paying a deposit.
Chitengo at Gorongosa, in Sofala, explicitly distinguishes self-camping from supplied Park Tents. Its published camping season runs from 1 April to 15 December. Confirm the dates and your chosen product directly, along with park charges and activities. Do not transfer the facilities of a room or supplied tent to a self-camping booking by assumption.
In Gaza, Limpopo National Park’s facilities page identifies camping and chalet options and asks visitors to enquire about the status of dry camps. In Manica, ANAC’s Chimanimani page identifies camping at Nhahomba Gate. Both are concrete enquiry starting points, with current operations and services still to confirm.
In Maputo Province, the park accommodation directory separates Membene Beach campsite, Xinguti Lagoon Forest Camping and rustic camping from lodge accommodation. These are provincial park options, not pitches in Maputo city. Check the particular camp, entry arrangements and vehicle requirements with the manager.
In Zambézia, ANAC names Musseia Main Camping Site. Separately, Gilé’s visitor information describes furnished tents at Lice Touristic Camp. Ask about the actual product and prior arrangements rather than assuming the two names mean the same kind of overnight stay. In Inhambane, ANAC identifies camping at Zinave, with details to verify directly.
Regional advice before a reservation
The current FCDO regional advice applies different warnings to Cabo Delgado and specified districts of Nampula and Niassa. Check the exact locality and map. Cabo Delgado’s exceptions still carry advice against all but essential travel. A cultural attraction or an advertised lodge does not override those warnings.
Use affected pages as background where leisure travel is discouraged. No page in this collection supplies a route into restricted areas. If a property’s promotion conflicts with current advice, postpone the leisure plan and resolve the access question first. A reservation is evidence of an accommodation agreement, not proof that a journey is appropriate.
Mozambique camping guides by province and city
Choose a card for the regional overnight evidence, cultural or conservation context, and booking questions. Maputo Province and Maputo City have separate cards. The list follows ten provinces and the capital city, as distinguished in the official toponymic factfile.

Send the operator your dates, party size, vehicle type and camping equipment. Ask for a complete quote with accommodation, conservation charges, activities, guiding and meals identified separately. Establish whether the price is per person, per pitch or per unit. A clear description is more useful than comparing two prices for different products.
Ask directly about drinking water, washing water, toilets, shade, food preparation, charging and waste handling. Do not infer any service from the word campsite. Confirm whether cooking equipment is supplied and what needs to be brought. For a furnished tent, ask which bedding and bathroom arrangements belong to that exact unit.
Confirm reception hours and the process for a delayed or cancelled arrival. Ask how a closure or weather disruption affects the booking. A suitable indoor alternative can help where travel remains appropriate, but an unstaffed beach, private property or riverside clearing is not a confirmed replacement campsite. Make the agreement specific enough that both parties understand it.
Season, weather and park rules
The national safety advice describes rainy-season flooding and cyclone disruption from November to April and recommends daylight road travel outside major cities. Ask about current access rather than relying on a dry-season travel time. Keep weather decisions separate from a property’s advertised opening season.
Within conservation areas, follow the responsible manager’s instructions on camping locations, wildlife, food storage, fires and guided activities. An overnight booking does not imply permission to walk independently, swim in a river or drive on every track. Request the rules for the park you are actually visiting; practices at another reserve are not a substitute.
Heritage and evidence limits
UNESCO’s Island of Mozambique entry explains the architectural and maritime heritage of the Nampula property. Heritage importance does not establish campsite availability or current travel conditions. The same distinction applies to urban museums, religious sites and community spaces mentioned in the regional guides.
This Mozambique camping collection was reviewed on 28 October 2026. Named primary sources support the accommodation leads and background; they do not guarantee a vacancy. Where no own-tent pitch was verified, the regional page says so. Recheck access, the exact accommodation product and current operations before making a commitment.
