Madrid camping guide. The Community of Madrid has one province. Choose Aranjuez for riverside landscapes and heritage or the Guadarrama foothills for mountain walking. A southern campsite is not a short daily transfer to every northern trailhead. City museums provide an alternative in poor weather.
Plan your wider route with our Spain camping guide. This guide covers the region by province. Camping permissions, seasonal access and booking conditions differ by destination.
Madrid
Natural places and towns: Aranjuez combines Tagus riverside scenery and historic gardens. Guadarrama, La Pedriza and the El Escorial/Abantos area provide separate forest and mountain routes. Select a route appropriate to weather and experience; reservoir access is not a promise of authorized bathing.
Camping inside the destination: Aranjuez camping is a formal riverside base outside Guadarrama National Park. Madrid’s official natural-area guidance prohibits wild camping and directs visitors to specific park bivouac conditions. Confirm those conditions before an overnight trek.
Nearby free camping: No unrestricted free tent campsite was verified for this itinerary. Designated mountain bivouac rules are not a general free family-camping allowance, and picnic areas or city parking do not authorize tents. Confirm any vehicle overnight area with its municipality and follow the posted stay limit.
Paid camping: Samay Camping Aranjuez has camping/caravanning pitches, pools and dining. Its 2026 rate card lists a Tajo pitch from €39.30 in low season, including two people, electricity and the stated tent/caravan-plus-car or motorhome setup. Confirm dates and category. Camping Osuna is an officially listed city alternative for tents and caravans; request a current quote.
Restaurants: El Juncal provides on-site Aranjuez dining. It is a convenient meal stop for that campsite, rather than a restaurant near the Guadarrama trailheads.
Museums and cultural stops: Aranjuez’s Royal Palace and gardens complement the camping base. El Escorial’s monastery belongs to a northern excursion. Madrid’s Prado, Reina Sofía and other museums require a separate city day.
Practical information: Spring and autumn generally suit lower walks and heritage visits; high routes need a fresh weather check. Estimate 2–4 km, 5–10 minutes from Aranjuez camping to palace-area parking. The Guadarrama mountains require a different base or a long transfer. Bring water, sun protection and walking shoes, with warmer layers and navigation for mountain outings.
Reservations, prices and equipment
Information checked on October 13, 2026. Published price examples below describe the stated package, not a guaranteed nightly quote. Where a current fixed tariff could not be verified, request a dated quote for your party, tent or vehicle, electricity and pets. Confirm opening dates, vehicle length, pitch access and cancellation terms directly before travel.
Carry a weatherproof tent, suitable sleeping bag and insulated pad, headlamp, first-aid kit, offline map, drinking water and layers. Match footwear and sun protection to your route. Mountain and coastal weather can differ sharply on the same trip.
