Macao China Camping Guide: Coloane Walks and Cheoc Van Eligibility Checks

This Macao camping guide helps you choose an outdoor base and separate a confirmed overnight booking from a sightseeing suggestion. Start with the landscape and transport you can realistically cover, then arrange accommodation for your dates.

Nature and outdoor visits

Coloane provides the main outdoor focus, with Hac Sa and Cheoc Van beaches and managed walking routes. A beach visit does not establish a right to camp there independently.

Managed camping and paid accommodation

Cheoc Van Youth Hostel’s campsite is managed by DSEDJ. Eligibility is restricted to specified schools, nonprofit bodies, public institutions and referred applicants. Ordinary tourists should not assume they qualify; obtain DSEDJ confirmation before planning a stay.

DSEDJ publishes Cheoc Van rates of MOP100 per small pitch per day and MOP160 per large pitch per day, including a tent; own-tent charges depend on pitch size. These tariffs do not remove the eligibility and application requirements. The rules normally allow up to five days per application and seven days per month, subject to approval. Facilities include washrooms and a shared kitchen. No motorhome pitch or hookup is established by this listing.

Free camping and permissions

No free overnight site with confirmed access conditions and a stay limit is established here. Do not infer overnight permission from a picnic lawn, a daytime camping photograph or a scenic-area ticket. Follow the land manager’s current instructions.

Food and restaurants

For a separate city meal, Dragon Portuguese Cuisine is listed by the tourism office at 40 Rua da Felicidade for Portuguese and Macanese cooking. It is not a campsite-adjacent restaurant in Coloane.

Museums and cultural stops

Historic Macao and its museums form a separate cultural day. Allow transport time between the peninsula and Coloane rather than treating them as one compact walking circuit.

Season, access and equipment

Cooler months are useful for long walks, with heat, humidity and tropical-weather warnings relevant at other times. The campsite address is 7 Cheoc Van, Rua de António Francisco, Coloane. Confirm eligibility, application deadlines, approval and transport before planning around the published tariff.

Carry suitable footwear, water, sun protection, rain protection and an appropriate warm layer. Confirm the last arrival time and return transport before leaving town. Ask the operator whether your passport, vehicle and overnight product can be accommodated; do not assume all camping packages provide the same service.

Sources and planning status

Source checked October 22, 2026: destination or camping source. A dated rating or government feature is evidence of the named place, not a live availability check. Prices and unconfirmed facilities must be checked directly before travel.
