Kyrenia Camping Guide: Nature, Campsites and Travel Tips

Kyrenia camping planning starts with confirmed accommodation and a route that matches the places you want to visit. This guide focuses on Girne, Alagadi and the northern coast, with nature, culture, food and practical overnight checks.

Checked October 16, 2026. Published prices and operating information are dated checks, not guarantees of availability. Confirm your travel dates directly.

Kyrenia camping: what has been verified

Kyrenia, also called Girne, is in the Turkish Cypriot-administered north of Cyprus. This guide covers outdoor and cultural trip planning there. A currently operating authorised touring campsite in Kyrenia district with confirmed own-equipment admission and a current tariff was not verified. Arrange confirmed accommodation before arrival; do not assume every former “mocamp” still takes tents or motorhomes.

Riviera Beach Bungalows describes its historical beginnings with a camping area but now advertises bungalow accommodation. A past camping reference is not proof of current touring pitches. Ask the operator directly about the exact accommodation product and use a room or bungalow if that is what it actually offers.

Prices and booking checks

No numerical touring-pitch rate is supplied because none was verified. Request a dated full quote for the actual accommodation you choose, including people, parking, meals and any mandatory charges. If bringing equipment, obtain explicit written confirmation of permission and access before travelling.

For any vehicle journey from the government-controlled area, confirm both rental-company permission and the insurance needed for the northern area. Consult the U.S. State Department’s Cyprus travel guidance and the requirements relevant to your own nationality and documents. Use recognised crossing points. Crossing delays and administrative checks must be included in the day’s schedule.

Alagadi: conservation before convenience

The Society for the Protection of Turtles visitor information explains the Alagadi conservation setting. During the nesting season, public night access to the beach is restricted; organised conservation visits have their own booking arrangements. A turtle-watching activity is not permission for independent overnight camping.

Follow the conservation team’s instructions and arrange seasonal visits through its current official channels. Sightings are not guaranteed. Do not approach nests independently, use uncontrolled lighting or turn a wildlife visit into a beach overnight.

Kyrenia Castle and the harbour

The northern tourism guide identifies Kyrenia Castle and its Shipwreck Museum as cultural stops. Give the museum and harbour a dedicated town visit, checking current admission and opening hours. Use the Kyrenia destination page to develop the wider route rather than attempting every coastal and mountain attraction in one day.

Where to eat and travel estimates

SPOT lists several restaurants within walking distance of its Alagadi base, including Hoca Fish Restoran, with traditional Cypriot food and seafood among the local choices. Check the current menu, hours and exact location before visiting. Use the conservation centre’s linked directions rather than assuming the restaurant is next to your accommodation.

For a Kyrenia town–Alagadi trip, allow roughly 20–25 km and 30–40 minutes each way as a planning estimate, depending on your chosen destination and traffic. A stay farther west or inland changes that calculation. Check the route in daylight and leave room for an unhurried return.

Free camping, season and equipment

No authorised free overnight site was verified here. Obtain accommodation and exact local permissions rather than relying on a beach map pin. Wildlife protection, access rules and vehicle cover all need separate attention.

Spring and autumn can suit general sightseeing; turtle activities follow their own seasonal schedules. Bring walking shoes, water, sun protection and layers for evening coastal wind. Check conservation availability and weather close to departure.

Compare the other districts in our Cyprus camping guide. Book your overnight base before committing to a longer driving itinerary.
