This Imereti Georgia camping guide uses two practical bases: Kutaisi for caves, canyons and culture, and the Kharagauli side of Borjomi-Kharagauli for a planned forest trek. Changing bases can be more realistic than repeating long transfers.
Nature and places to explore
The regional tourism guide highlights Okatse Canyon, Kinchkha Waterfall and the Kutaisi area. Book attractions on their own terms; a daytime entrance ticket does not establish overnight rights. Match each outing to weather and opening arrangements.
Managed camping, prices and facilities
Camp in Georgia, in Sveri village near Chiatura, publishes tent-area admission at EUR 5 per person per day. Rental costs are additional: EUR 3.50 for a one-person tent, EUR 5 for two people or EUR 7 for three, each per day. The operator lists shared cooking space, toilets, showers and Wi-Fi among included facilities. Confirm availability and vehicle arrangements before arrival. Sveri is a separate base from Kutaisi and the Kharagauli park entrance.
For Borjomi-Kharagauli, the previously reviewed Georgian tariff listed 10 GEL per person per day, whereas the English agency page still lists 5 GEL. The Georgian page could not be retrieved during this follow-up, so the discrepancy remains unresolved. Registration at a visitor centre is mandatory; request a route and designated overnight place. Do not assume motorhome services at a hiking camp.
Free camping and permissions
No separately verified free campground with stay limits is identified. Do not use cave grounds, canyon entrances or attraction car parks as overnight sites without express authorization.
Restaurants and food stops
Lilestan is listed at 11 Tamar Mepe in Kutaisi, with Georgian and European food. Verify service and the exact location. Buy trail provisions before leaving town; the restaurant is not a resupply promise for the park interior.
Museums and culture
Kutaisi’s historical and archaeological heritage offers a useful counterpart to outdoor days. Review the official museum-reserve information and check which buildings or exhibitions are currently open.
Season, access and equipment
Choose one canyon or cave outing for a culture-base day and allow a separate block for a registered park trek. Bring sturdy footwear, weather protection and a route-specific water plan. The exact walking distance and time depend on the allocated park route; obtain them from the visitor centre rather than applying a generic estimate.
