Hong Kong China Camping Guide: Designated Country-Park Camps and Twisk Reservations

This Hong Kong camping guide helps you choose an outdoor base and separate a confirmed overnight booking from a sightseeing suggestion. Start with the landscape and transport you can realistically cover, then arrange accommodation for your dates.

Nature and outdoor visits

Hong Kong’s country parks offer real camping options beyond the urban skyline. Choose a particular designated campsite and hiking approach rather than assuming that every beach or viewpoint permits tents. Twisk lies in Tai Lam Country Park near Tai Mo Shan.

Managed camping and paid accommodation

Twisk requires advance booking through Enjoy Camping. Its official page lists tent decks, tables, cooking units, toilets and a water source. Check current water notices and distinguish site use from optional equipment rental.

AFCD’s 2025–26 report describes free Twisk campsite bookings. Check the live booking terms for your dates; equipment rental and deposits are separate. The campsite page lists toilets, water and waste facilities, but current water availability must be checked before departure.

Designated sites and permissions

Use AFCD’s designated campsite directory. Booking arrangements differ by site; Twisk requires a reservation. Camp only where permitted, follow the current camping code and confirm the allowed duration with the site information. A beach photograph is not evidence of overnight permission.

Food and restaurants

For a separate Sai Kung outing, Hong Kong Tourism Board lists Chuen Kee Seafood Restaurant on the waterfront. This is a town dining option, not a restaurant beside Twisk; buy camp food before entering the park.

Museums and cultural stops

Pair an urban museum day or a village visit with the outdoor stay. Choose one area rather than trying to combine Twisk and remote Sai Kung beaches in the same overnight plan.

Season, access and equipment

Cooler, drier periods are a useful planning window, while typhoons, heavy rain, heat and fire warnings can change access. The official Twisk directions use bus 51 and a roughly five-minute walk from the Tai Mo Shan Country Park stop. Confirm the current bus service and return journey before departure.

Carry suitable footwear, water, sun protection, rain protection and an appropriate warm layer. Confirm the last arrival time and return transport before leaving town. Ask the operator whether your passport, vehicle and overnight product can be accommodated; do not assume all camping packages provide the same service.

Sources and planning status

Source checked October 22, 2026: destination or camping source. A dated rating or government feature is evidence of the named place, not a live availability check. Prices and unconfirmed facilities must be checked directly before travel.
