Gandaki Camping Guide: Pokhara Glamping and Annapurna Planning

Gandaki camping ranges from furnished lakeside glamping near Pokhara to supported trekking in Annapurna country. Start by deciding whether you want a comfortable tented stay or a multi-day mountain expedition. A resort reservation and a high-altitude itinerary involve very different budgets and preparation.

Travel planning note — reviewed 24 October 2026: check current official travel advice before booking. Confirm local access, weather and overnight permission with the responsible operator or park office.

Nature and places to explore

Pokhara’s Phewa and Begnas lake landscapes provide a lower-altitude introduction. The Annapurna region is a separate trekking choice, while Ghandruk adds a Gurung village visit when access and your itinerary permit. Manaslu and Upper Mustang require more specific planning than a casual camping holiday.

Use the Nepal Tourism Board’s destination information as background, then confirm the conditions for your travel dates.

Gandaki camping: paid stays and approved sites

The Pavilions Himalayas Lakeview advertises furnished tented villas beside Phewa Lake. Its website lists Classic villas from USD 150 per night, alongside full-board meals and return boat and airport transfers. This is an advertised starting rate checked on 24 October 2026, not a live quote; confirm dates, occupancy, taxes and exactly what your selected rate includes.

For an Annapurna camping trek, have a registered agency identify permitted sites and explain where lodges are the more practical overnight choice. Ask who supplies tents, sleeping mats, toilets, fuel and waste removal. A lakeside villa booking does not authorize independent tent pitching elsewhere around the lake.

Free camping and permission

No unrestricted free lakeside campground was verified. Obtain the property owner’s permission and any protected-area approval before using a personal tent.

Entry fees and the real trip budget

Annapurna’s published conservation-area entry fee is NPR 3,000 for other foreign nationals, NPR 1,000 for SAARC visitors and NPR 100 for Nepalis. Source: NTB’s central park-entry table. These are entry charges, not nightly camping rates. Reconfirm additional taxes and activity fees directly.

Upper Mustang has an additional restricted-area permit: Immigration currently lists USD 50 per person per day. Other restricted routes have their own schedules. Check the Department of Immigration fee table through your agency rather than assuming the Annapurna fee covers everything.

Check NTB’s route-specific guide and TIMS requirements with a registered trekking agency. Camping consent and other permits remain separate.

Request an itemized quote covering accommodation, transport, meals, guiding, equipment and permissions. No universal tent-pitch rate applies to the whole province. Ask about deposits, cancellation terms and alternatives if access closes.

Food and dining

The Lakeview property advertises a full-board meal plan, which makes it a documented dining option for its guests. In Pokhara, look for a Thakali-style dal bhat meal or momos; the Pokhara Tourism Council’s food guide describes local choices. Obtain current menus rather than assuming a fixed meal budget.

Culture and considerate visits

Ghandruk is a traditional Gurung village. Choose locally guided visits and ask before photographing residents or entering homes. In Mustang, respect monastery access rules and local customs. Do not use cultural visits as an excuse to enter restricted territory without the correct documentation.

Getting there and choosing a season

Use Pokhara as a planning base and allow room for weather-related travel changes. The UK advisory also reports flood effects in Gorkha, so confirm the exact approach to any Manaslu itinerary before booking. Check current travel advice and obtain a dated route assessment from the agency.

Match the equipment to the altitude and season rather than to photographs of a sunny lakeside. A short Pokhara stay cannot establish readiness for a high pass. Plan gradual altitude gain with a qualified operator and keep a flexible return margin. Avoid riverbank camps when flooding is possible.

Before you book

Confirm the exact overnight location, current authorization and a realistic arrival plan. Pack out waste, protect water sources and use only approved cooking arrangements. Check our Nepal camping guide to compare the seven provinces before choosing a route.
