Galicia Camping Guide: Coast, Forests & All 4 Provinces

Galicia camping guide. Plan Atlantic beaches, river canyons, woodland walks and cultural towns by province. The coast and inland Ribeira Sacra need different bases. Cíes is a boat-access camping destination with visitor authorization and a seasonal campsite, rather than a motorhome stop.

Plan your wider route with our Spain camping guide. This guide covers the region by province. Camping permissions, seasonal access and booking conditions differ by destination.

A Coruña

Natural places and towns: Rianxo offers Ría de Arousa coastal outings. Corrubedo’s dunes and lagoons and Fragas do Eume’s woodland require separate excursion plans; Costa da Morte is another coastal itinerary.

Camping inside the destination: Camping Rianxo is designated camping in the ría area. Do not set up tents on protected dunes, lagoon edges or forest paths.

Nearby free camping: No unrestricted, free public tent campsite was verified for this itinerary. A picnic area or beach car park is not permission to camp. Ask the municipality and protected-area office about authorized sites, permits and maximum stay before choosing a free overnight stop.

Paid camping: Camping Rianxo offers camping accommodation and facilities. Obtain current tent/car or motorhome pricing, utilities and opening dates; the old PDF retrieved from a 2019 upload is not used as a current tariff.

Restaurants: Rianxo campsite restaurant is listed in the operator’s rules; confirm current seasonal menu and service hours.

Museums and cultural stops: Visit Rianxo’s literary and maritime heritage. Santiago’s cathedral and museums and A Coruña’s museums are separate city trips.

Practical information: Late spring through early autumn offers the widest coastal camping options. Estimate 1–3 km, 5–10 minutes from the camping area to central Rianxo depending on destination. Bring rain layers and wind-resistant shelter; Fragas do Eume is not a short local transfer.

Lugo

Natural places and towns: Monterroso’s A Peneda complex offers river-side recreation in the Ulloa area. The Lugo coast and As Catedrais near Ribadeo are separate destinations; plan tides and any seasonal access booking before going.

Camping inside the destination: A Peneda’s municipal campsite is the designated overnight option. The adjacent river beach and recreation area do not authorize tents outside the campsite.

Nearby free camping: No unrestricted, free public tent campsite was verified for this itinerary. A picnic area or beach car park is not permission to camp. Ask the municipality and protected-area office about authorized sites, permits and maximum stay before choosing a free overnight stop.

Paid camping: Camping Municipal de Monterroso publishes VAT-inclusive components: two adults, tent and car total €25.50 per day, electricity €4 extra; two adults and motorhome total €24 before electricity. The page does not clearly date the season, so confirm current validity. Its seasonal information says closing September 15; verify the next opening.

Restaurants: A Peneda restaurant-bar is part of the municipal recreation complex; confirm menu and hours.

Museums and cultural stops: Lugo’s Roman walls and Provincial Museum merit a separate city day; Monterroso and the Camino landscape supply closer heritage stops.

Practical information: Late spring and summer suit the seasonal campsite. Local river recreation is within the complex. Estimate roughly 1–2 km, 5 minutes to central Monterroso. As Catedrais requires a separate long drive; bring rain protection and check tides and beach safety.

Ourense

Natural places and towns: Parada de Sil and the Ribeira Sacra provide gorge viewpoints and forest routes. Xurés and O Invernadeiro are separate protected-area itineraries. Ourense is inland, so no marine beach is included.

Camping inside the destination: Cañón do Sil provides formal camping in the gorge area. Any protected-area access reservation is separate from camping and boat-trip bookings.

Nearby free camping: No unrestricted, free public tent campsite was verified for this itinerary. A picnic area or beach car park is not permission to camp. Ask the municipality and protected-area office about authorized sites, permits and maximum stay before choosing a free overnight stop.

Paid camping: Camping Cañón do Sil offers camping accommodation. A complete current tariff could not be extracted in this check; request dates, occupancy, tent/car or touring-vehicle acceptance, utilities and opening conditions directly.

Restaurants: Cañón do Sil café-restaurant advertises daily menus at the campsite; confirm seasonal service.

Museums and cultural stops: Visit Santa Cristina de Ribas de Sil monastery and nearby villages; Ourense’s museums and historic centre are a separate city outing.

Practical information: Spring and autumn suit forest walks and gorge viewpoints. Estimate 2–4 km, 5–10 minutes from the camping area to Parada de Sil, depending on the chosen route. Mountain roads may be narrow. Bring boots, water and a rain layer, and use authorized operators for river excursions.

Pontevedra

Natural places and towns: Portonovo and Sanxenxo offer Rías Baixas beaches; Monte Aloia is a separate forest destination. Cíes provides protected island beaches, trails and viewpoints, accessible by ferry.

Camping inside the destination: Camping Islas Cíes is the designated island camping option. Its booking process manages a preliminary Xunta authorization, followed by the ferry-ticket steps and final authorization. The site currently announces end-of-season closure; no island overnight stay is allowed until reopening.

Nearby free camping: No unrestricted, free public tent campsite was verified for this itinerary. A picnic area or beach car park is not permission to camp. Ask the municipality and protected-area office about authorized sites, permits and maximum stay before choosing a free overnight stop.

Paid camping: For a mainland touring base, Camping Playa Canelas offers camping with restaurant facilities; obtain a dated tent/car or motorhome quote. Cíes’ published 2026 own-tent rates total €32.70 for two adults and a tent in low season or €35.70 in high season, VAT included, for the stated 1–7-night rate. Ferry transport is separate and vehicles are not campsite access units.

Restaurants: Playa Canelas restaurant provides snacks, rice dishes and varied meals at the mainland campsite. Cíes dining is seasonal; do not assume it operates outside the campsite season.

Museums and cultural stops: Visit the Museum of Pontevedra or Vigo’s museums on a separate city outing. Island interpretation adds nature-focused context during an authorized Cíes visit.

Practical information: Late spring to early autumn generally suits the coast, within campsite dates. Playa Canelas is a local beach outing from its campsite. For Cíes, allow the ferry journey plus the walk from the landing to reception; confirm the operator’s actual sailing time and carry your camping gear. Bring rain protection, water and sturdy shoes.
