Eastern Thailand Camping Guide: Pang Sida Forest Stays

Eastern Thailand camping offers an inland alternative to a beach-only itinerary. Pang Sida National Park in Sa Kaeo is the overnight anchor for this guide, with forest scenery and a slower journey through the eastern countryside.

Nature and a realistic route

Use Pang Sida for a park-focused stay rather than assuming every eastern attraction can be reached on a day trip. Ask the visitor centre which walking routes and waterfall access are open. Forest roads and trails can become difficult after heavy rain; adjust the day’s plan to local instructions.

Authorized camping and overnight permission

The Thai-language Tourism Authority of Thailand listing identifies two camping locations: behind the visitor centre and at the Huai Nam Yen ranger unit. Confirm which is accepting visitors and whether your vehicle can reach it before choosing a pitch. The existence of two listed sites does not guarantee both will operate on your travel dates.

Free and paid camping: what to budget

TAT publishes a tent-area fee of 30 baht per person and admission of 40/20 baht for Thai adults/children and 200/100 baht for foreign adults/children. These are reference prices from the listing, to be checked with the park. Ask whether the pitch charge is per night and whether rental equipment is available. Vehicle charges, rentals and any guided activities need separate confirmation.

Food and local culture

Buy drinking water and food supplies in town before heading into the park. Ask staff about actual meal service, cooking locations and waste disposal on arrival. Eastern market meals may include rice dishes, grilled fish and seasonal fruit; wash or peel fruit and confirm ingredients if you have allergies. Do not leave food or rubbish where animals can reach it.

Getting there and planning your stay

Sa Kaeo is the practical province to organize around for this park. Arrange the final transfer and return pickup before leaving town; provincial public transport is not a guarantee of service to a campground. Keep fuel, offline navigation, cash and your booking details ready. A paved approach does not imply every internal road is suitable for a small rental car.

Ask specifically about toilets, showers, drinking water, phone reception and tent rental rather than inferring facilities from a generic listing. No verified free overnight site is included. For a cultural extension, visit a local market or temple with permission and modest dress. Check current border-area travel advice before adding separate frontier excursions; a park camping reservation is not guidance for the wider border region.
