This Democratic Republic of Congo camping guide links all 26 provinces, including the city-province of Kinshasa. It distinguishes conservation destinations from confirmed visitor services and marks the gaps in campsite, price and restaurant evidence. The country is DRC, also called Congo-Kinshasa; the Republic of Congo guide covers a different country.
Democratic Republic of Congo camping: 26 provinces
The directory follows the Interior Ministry provincial framework. Each card opens a separate guide with its own context and return link. Coverage is provincial, not a claim to describe every town or village.

Travel advice and closures
Checked October 28, 2026: read the UK official DRC advisory and regional risk details before booking. Advice discourages all travel to Haut-Uélé, Ituri, Nord-Kivu, Sud-Kivu, Maniema, Tanganyika and Haut-Lomami, and within 50 km of the Central African Republic border. Kwamouth territory has a separate all-travel warning. Essential-travel restrictions also cover specified Kinshasa areas and the N1 corridor, Upemba National Park and Kisangani’s Bangoka airport. Consult the live map and exact wording for route boundaries. The advisory also reports an ongoing Ebola outbreak; review its current health and entry information. These guides do not recommend leisure camping in restricted areas.
Virunga’s official visitor notification says gorilla and Nyiragongo treks are closed until further notice. Older accommodation and activity pages do not override that notice. Garamba’s visitor page carries a flooding closure notice with only an approximate reopening period. Confirm any future availability directly and apply official advice independently.
What is and is not a verified campsite
No province in this package is assigned an invented public pitch, free camp or numeric tent tariff. A furnished lodge, sanctuary overnight stay, expedition camp and independent pitch are different products. Obtain written confirmation of the exact sleeping arrangement, location, current operation and visitor eligibility. Where access cannot be established, defer the visit.
Nature and conservation context
The UNESCO register documents Virunga, Kahuzi-Biega, Garamba, Salonga and the Okapi Wildlife Reserve. Lomami appears on the Tentative List, a different status. Inscription does not establish public access, a maintained trail or a current tourism programme. Conservation research and visitor services should be checked separately.
The Kinshasa guide links Lola ya Bonobo’s own visitor service. The Kongo-Central guide introduces Zongo and Kisantu as research leads. Neither sanctuary nor waterfall access implies a right to camp.
Free camping, permits and stay limits
This research did not establish a nationwide entitlement to wild camp or an authorized free stop in every province. Request consent from the responsible land manager and confirm the permit process and maximum stay. Riverbanks, beaches, farms and forest clearings are not automatically public overnight space.
Paid stays and realistic costs
Request a dated total separating accommodation, entry, conservation fees, guides, equipment, meals, taxes and transfers. A hotel room rate cannot substitute for a tent tariff. Motorhome acceptance and overnight vehicle permission require separate confirmation. No universal servicing network is verified here.
Culture, restaurants and practical planning
City restaurant leads with direct venue sources appear in the Kinshasa and Haut-Katanga guides. Other articles identify where public restaurant information could not be verified. Obtain current menus and dietary arrangements from the actual host. Respect consent at cultural institutions and community spaces; a historical building is not automatically an open museum.
Use a real booked address and a specific entrance for distance and weather enquiries. Country-wide drive times and a single best season would obscure local conditions. Resolve transport, communications, drinking water and the return journey before an authorized outing. A published guide or booking alone does not establish that travel is appropriate on your dates.
