Centre-Val de Loire Camping: Loire Trails, Forests & Castles

Centre-Val de Loire camping suits slower river journeys, cycling and castle visits. A Muides-sur-Loire base combines an established riverside campsite with Chambord and local paths. Brenne’s ponds, Sologne’s forests and the western Loire deserve their own stages rather than rushed day trips.

Departments covered by this regional guide

Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Loiret.

Natural places to visit

Use the Loire à Vélo and local château cycling routes for a manageable day from Muides. At Chambord’s estate, choose the open walking and cycling areas and respect gates and marked boundaries.

For a longer regional itinerary, add Brenne’s wetlands or Sologne woodland from a closer base. A riverbank, pond or picnic area is a sightseeing location until overnight permission is established; access for a walk and access for a vehicle are different.

Camping inside the destination

Camping municipal Bellevue provides an established Loire base at Muides, approximately 8 km from Chambord. Its published 2026 season was March 30–September 30, so confirm a later or future stay rather than assuming it remains open.

Book your equipment category directly and ask about river-level disruptions, arrival times and pitch access. Château admission and estate parking are separate purchases; a parking payment is not permission to erect a tent.

Nearby free camping and authorized bivouac

No specifically authorized free serviced tent campground was verified for this Muides itinerary. Ask the municipality or land manager about the exact overnight location and allowed duration. Do not camp on a Loire sandbank merely because it appears empty or dry, and keep protected wetlands separate from ordinary campsite pitches.

The 2026 Bellevue tariff lists €15 for two people with tent, vehicle and electricity; €13 for two cyclists with tent and electricity; and €18 for one or two people in a motorhome including water, disposal and electricity. Tourist tax is listed separately at €0.22; confirm the applicable exemptions and complete booking total.

Electricity, laundry and a motorhome service area are advertised. Confirm potable water, sanitary access, cycling storage, pitch size and whether a short stay can be reserved.

Restaurants, museums and cultural stops

La Chanterelle in Muides offers French cooking for a local evening meal. Reserve directly and verify its opening day. Chambord’s architecture, Blois and Chaumont-sur-Loire provide culture-and-garden outings, with separate ticket conditions.

A short cycle ride followed by one timed visit is more realistic than several castles after a long day on the Loire. Plan secure bicycle parking and the return journey before starting.

Best season, access, distances and equipment

From Bellevue, estimate around 8–12 km / 15–25 minutes to Chambord’s selected visitor parking, and about 18–25 km / 25–40 minutes to Blois. A cycling route may differ from the shortest road route, so add your own pace, stops and daylight allowance.

Spring through early autumn generally suits tent camping and cycling. Carry rain protection, water, a repair kit, lights, a lock and offline maps. Reserve summer and holiday dates early, and confirm campsite opening when travelling outside its published season.

Reviewed October 13, 2026. Prices are dated published references, not guaranteed quotes. Driving distances and times are broad planning estimates from the stated base; add walking time and confirm current routes, seasonal opening, permissions and booking conditions.
