Asturias camping guide. Asturias is both a community and a single province. Organize the trip into eastern coast, Picos de Europa foothills and Somiedo, rather than treating them as one compact campsite catchment. Green landscapes come with wet weather and mountain-road travel.
Plan your wider route with our Spain camping guide. This guide covers the region by province. Camping permissions, seasonal access and booking conditions differ by destination.
Asturias
Natural places and towns: Use La Franca and Ribadedeva for beaches, Cangas de Onís and Soto de Cangas for Covadonga and the Picos de Europa, and Valle de Lago or Pola de Somiedo for lake and mountain walks. Somiedo’s Saliencia lakes and Lago del Valle are protected landscapes. Muniellos is a separate western forest visit with controlled entry; check its official visitor information.
Camping inside the destination: For Somiedo, reserve a formal camping place at Lagos de Somiedo in Valle de Lago. For Covadonga, use a foothill campsite, not a tent beside Enol or Ercina. Check the Covadonga access plan for seasonal vehicle restrictions and public transport.
Nearby free camping: No unrestricted free tent campsite was verified for these itineraries. Municipal motorhome parking has its own signs, vehicle rules and stay limits; it does not authorize tents. Asturias regulations prohibit non-authorized wild camping. Check the municipality’s current ordinance before any vehicle overnight stay.
Paid camping: Camping Lagos de Somiedo publishes 2026 components including VAT: small tent €10, adult €8 and car €7 per day, making €33 for two adults, a small tent and car. Two adults plus motorhome cost €28 before electricity, which adds €7. Prices may change at booking. Camping Covadonga is an officially listed alternative near Soto de Cangas with a restaurant; obtain its current pitch quote. Playa de la Franca is a coastal alternative, but its complete current price could not be retrieved during this check.
Restaurants: Merendero de Covadonga offers local dishes such as cachopo during a Covadonga day trip. For La Franca, the official La Tejera/La Casa Abajo listing describes a sidrería and grill serving regional food. Neither should be described as a nearby restaurant for every Somiedo campsite.
Museums and cultural stops: Visit the Archivo de Indianos in Colombres on a coastal day, Covadonga’s sanctuary near Cangas de Onís, and Somiedo’s ethnographic interpretation facilities. Oviedo’s Museum of Fine Arts is a separate city excursion.
Practical information: Late spring to early autumn gives the widest camping options; confirm opening dates and snow-free mountain routes. Estimate roughly 8 km, 15–20 minutes from Valle de Lago camping to Pola de Somiedo. From Soto de Cangas, Covadonga is roughly 5–7 km, 10–15 minutes; transport controls may change the onward lake journey. Bring waterproof layers, boots and an insulated sleeping pad.
