This Argentina camping guide brings together nature highlights and overnight planning for all 23 provinces and Buenos Aires City. Argentina offers everything from forest walks and wetland wildlife to mountain lakes, desert scenery, and southern coastal landscapes.

Select a green destination card to open its published guide. Buenos Aires Province and Buenos Aires City are separate jurisdictions, so each has its own entry. The city guide explains daytime nature visits and how to continue toward a campground outside the capital.

Choose a landscape, then an overnight base

For a first trip, choose one province or a compact route through nearby destinations. A two-night campsite stay gives you a full day outside without packing up each morning. Also leave a spare day when your itinerary depends on a mountain trail, river crossing, or remote transfer.

The northern and northeastern guides include forest and wetland destinations in Chaco, Formosa, Corrientes, Jujuy, Salta, and Misiones. Start with a designated visitor area and confirm its current services. Elsewhere, the central and western guides offer hill country, palm landscapes, lagoons, and desert scenery. Select the route that best matches your transport and the kind of walking you enjoy.

Patagonian trips work best when you choose a specific lake or trekking sector. Neuquén, Río Negro, and Chubut provide forest-and-lake itineraries. Santa Cruz separates the northern trekking area of Los Glaciares from southern glacier sightseeing bases. Tierra del Fuego focuses on the Argentine side of the island and camping near Ushuaia.

Free camps, paid sites, and reservations

Each regional guide distinguishes confirmed camping options from places intended for daytime visits. Some park pages explicitly identify free campgrounds, including Aguas Negras in Calilegua, El Jarillar at El Leoncito, and Santa Rosa at Aconquija. Confirm their current availability and access before traveling. Free camping does not automatically include every service or separate park admission.

Other sites have operators, fees, or reservations. In Los Glaciares, the current park information lists Poincenot, Capri, and De Agostini as managed camps requiring advance reservations. Check the exact camping area rather than relying on an older description. The Spanish term camping libre alone is not proof that a stay costs nothing.

A practical camping checklist

Before booking, ask about tent pitches, drinking water, bathrooms, cooking rules, waste disposal, and arrival hours. Confirm the route to the site and download useful information while a connection is available. Pack a sleeping system suitable for the destination, a headlamp, waterproof storage, and enough supplies for the parts of the trip away from shops.

Use only authorized overnight areas and follow local instructions. Keep food secured and wildlife undisturbed. Carry rubbish to an appropriate disposal point, and use fires only where the authority currently allows them. A scenic roadside stop, reserve, or lakeshore does not automatically permit camping. Arrange an accommodation backup if your intended campsite closes.

Official sources and regional connections

The regional entries link to official park, government, and tourism information. Consult the national parks camping overview for the difference between basic and serviced camps. Recheck the exact park or operator for current fees, permissions, conditions, and services before departure.
