Aosta Valley Camping Guide: Valsavarenche and Gran Paradiso

Aosta Valley camping offers dramatic mountain scenery, but altitude and weather matter as much as distance. This itinerary uses Pont in Valsavarenche, with short valley outings and visitor-centre stops before considering higher trails.

Build your route with the Italy camping guide and regional directory.

Aosta Valley camping: nature and outdoor visits

Use Gran Paradiso’s Valsavarenche information to plan a suitable route. Ask park staff about snow, closures and the day’s weather. A short valley walk is a sensible alternative when high paths are unsuitable.

Established camping and published rates

Camping Pont Breuil publishes summer 2026 rates. Low season is 12 June–18 July and 25 August–September; adults are €7.50, tent €4.50, car €2.50 and electricity €3.50. Two adults with those items total €25.50 before tourist tax. High season, 19 July–24 August, changes adults to €8.50 and tent to €7.50: €30.50 with car and power. A standard camper is €8.50 low/€9 high, while vehicles over 7 metres have a separate rate. Confirm sanitary services, season end, arrival and booking arrangements.

Free camping and permission

No specific free overnight campsite was verified for this itinerary. Use the established paid option above or confirm a designated alternative with its manager and local authorities. A beach, picnic spot, trailhead or ordinary car park is not proof of camping permission. Check local signs, protected-area rules and vehicle restrictions before stopping.

Culture and heritage

The park’s Valsavarenche directory includes the Dégioz predator visitor centre and heritage stops at Rovenaud. Check which site is open and allow a separate transfer down the valley.

Where to eat

The Pont Breuil operator identifies a bar, restaurant and pizzeria just outside the campsite. Ask for the current name, menu and service hours before relying on a mountain-village meal stop.

Practical Aosta Valley camping information

Aosta to Pont is approximately 45–50 km and 1–1.25 hours by car, with winding valley roads. Summer is the main starting window in the published tariff; cold nights remain possible. Bring sturdy footwear, waterproof and insulating layers, a headlamp and a sleeping system suited to mountain temperatures. Check the road and weather before driving up.

A relaxed two-night plan

Arrive with enough daylight to check the pitch and facilities. Keep the first evening close to camp, then spend the full day on alpine valley walks and park heritage. Leave room for meals, weather changes and local transfers. Before departure, dispose of rubbish and wastewater in the proper facilities and confirm your next site’s arrival arrangements.

Source and tariff check: 16 October 2026. Published prices are reference checks, not live booking quotes or proof of availability. The quoted year and dates matter; do not carry a 2026 price into a later season. Confirm taxes, extras, services and the full amount directly with the operator. Distances and times are approximate planning estimates.
