Where to Camp in Andorra: All 7 Parishes & Mountain Escapes

Where to camp in Andorra? Choose an authorized overnight base first, then build mountain walks and village visits around it. This guide connects all seven parish articles, from Canillo and Encamp to Ordino, La Massana, the capital, Sant Julià de Lòria and Escaldes-Engordany.

Mountains, forests and lakes

Andorra offers high lakes, forest paths and river valleys rather than coastal beaches. Canillo provides Incles and routes towards Juclar; Encamp offers Les Pardines and lake access; Ordino combines Sorteny with Tristaina; La Massana provides Comapedrosa outings. Lower capital walks, the forests of La Rabassa and the Madriu valley create different day-trip options.

Natural parks and the Madriu cultural landscape have their own conditions. Choose your walk by route length, elevation gain, remaining snow and weather, not only by distance from a campsite. Waterfalls and lake edges are sightseeing locations unless an overnight arrangement is expressly authorized.

Authorized campsites and seasonal opening

An established campsite is the most straightforward base for a tent, car-and-tent trip or suitable touring vehicle. Santa Creu in Canillo is a seasonal example; its published 2026 season ended September 25. Valira in the capital advertises year-round operation, and Xixerella in La Massana provides touring pitches. Confirm your actual date and equipment before booking.

Mountain refuges provide a different kind of overnight stay. Beds, meals, showers and opening periods vary. Reserve a guarded refuge when needed and identify a backup; a refuge reservation does not establish permission to pitch outside.

Free camping, permissions and vehicle rules

Do not treat daytime parking as overnight authorization. Official Andorra motorhome information directs occupied vehicle overnight stays to authorized campsites and designated areas. Tent rules must be checked with the relevant parish. A vehicle listing or an app pin is not enough to establish permission.

The parish guides identify conditional arrangements without calling them confirmed free campsites. Sorteny’s enclosure exception depends on livestock being absent; the Madriu valley applies parish-specific instructions. An exemption from a permission requirement is not proof of a serviced or cost-free site. Confirm the exact area, group, dates and maximum stay.

The parish articles include dated operator price references where available, with separate charges for guests, equipment, cars, electricity and tourist tax. Santa Creu’s 2026 seasonal example and Valira’s 2026 price list are itemized in their respective guides. Xixerella requires a current quotation where a full tariff was not retrieved.

Specify the tent footprint and vehicle length when reserving. Confirm showers, potable water, electricity, wastewater disposal, deposits, cancellation terms and permitted stay. Re-check rates for future seasons; an old operator page should not be used as a current booking guarantee.

Restaurants and cultural visits

Pair nature with a mountain meal or a village afternoon. The linked guides include Borda Patxeta in the Canillo area, Borda del Tremat in Encamp, Ordino dining options, Borda de l’Avi in La Massana, Can Manel in the capital and food stops around La Rabassa and Escaldes. Confirm opening and book where appropriate.

Cultural combinations include Meritxell, Encamp’s museums, Ordino’s house-museum and miniature collection, Casa Rull, Casa de la Vall, Juberri gardens and the Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre. Admission and seasonal access are separate from camping. Leave time for a museum after a shorter walk rather than overloading a long mountain day.

Best season, travel times and equipment

Summer and early autumn are generally the most practical window for ordinary tent camping and higher walks. Lower routes may suit other snow-free periods. An open winter campsite does not imply safe summer-style hiking at altitude. Confirm road conditions, lift or shuttle schedules and any required winter vehicle equipment.

The guide distances are broad estimates from the stated camping base to town or road access, with the hike added separately. Expect winding roads, limited parking and traffic. Carry waterproofs, warm insulation, a forecast-matched sleeping bag and mat, sturdy shoes, drinking water, maps, a headlamp and first-aid supplies. Respect closures and only use fire when the site and current rules expressly permit it.

For a longer Iberian route, combine Andorra with the existing Spain camping directory and Portugal camping directory. Keep each country’s rules and reservations separate.
