Georgia Country Camping Guide: Regions, Nature and Authorized Stays

This Georgia country camping guide helps you choose between mountain valleys, forest parks, lake country and Black Sea bases. It covers the country of Georgia in the Caucasus, rather than the US state. Start with one landscape, confirm an authorized overnight, and add food and cultural visits around that base.

Choose your region

The grid below covers nine regions, Adjara and the capital Tbilisi. It is a practical travel grouping, not a claim that all administrative territories are currently appropriate for tourism. The individual guides explain where a campsite, price or permission still requires confirmation.

Security and areas excluded from camping recommendations

The UK FCDO advises against all travel to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and against all but essential travel immediately beside their administrative boundary lines. These areas are excluded from this camping itinerary. Review the official regional advice and your own government’s guidance for your route.

Camping rules: verify the actual place

Georgia’s tourism authority explains that protected-area camping uses designated locations, with permits or reservations depending on the park. Obtain confirmation from the responsible administration. A scenic location, public access or a tourism photograph does not settle overnight permission. No site in this research has been verified as both free and subject to documented current stay limits.

Published prices and why language versions matter

The Georgian agency pages for Borjomi-Kharagauli and Lagodekhi list camping at 10 GEL per person per day, while their accessible English versions list 5 GEL. Kintrishi also has differing language-version prices. The follow-up could not retrieve the Georgian tariff pages again; the earlier recorded discrepancies remain unresolved and prevent a guaranteed current quotation. Use the linked regional sources and confirm the exact amount before booking. Pitch fees, tent hire, shelter beds, park admission and vehicle services are separate products.

Named managed camping options

The regional guides now include CHAMO in Guria, Camp in Georgia in Sveri, Zeta in Juta and Lechkhumi Rafting Camp. They provide different levels of published information. Only the Sveri operator provided a clear tent-area admission rate in the newly checked operator pages. Confirm bookings and seasonal facilities directly.

Tents, cars and motorhomes

A hiking camp may be reachable only on foot. A road reaching a visitor centre does not establish access for a long or heavy vehicle. Confirm the last approach, parking, pitch surface, potable water, toilet access, electricity and wastewater disposal. No complete motorhome-service facility was verified in this research. Avoid planning a vehicle trip around an assumed hookup.

Build a realistic itinerary

For a first visit, select a city or heritage base and one nearby outdoor area. Give western coastal forests, high mountain valleys and eastern dry landscapes separate consideration. The right season depends on elevation, snow, rain and road access. Carry an appropriate sleeping system, waterproof layers, water, navigation and a headlamp; adapt equipment to the route rather than packing from a national average forecast.

Food and culture

The regional guides identify restaurant references and cultural stops. Confirm current service, museum access and reservations before relying on them. Restaurants in a regional city are not necessarily close to the selected camp. Arrange transport before dining and keep wine tasting separate from driving.

Before confirming an overnight

  1. Obtain the exact pitch and written authorization or booking confirmation.
  2. Ask for the total price, billing unit and maximum stay.
  3. Check facilities, drinking water and vehicle access for your dates.
  4. Choose an open route and confirm any border permits.
  5. Calculate actual travel and walking times from the confirmed location.
