Natural places: Les Pardines, Engolasters and higher valleys
Encamp camping works best as a combination of an established nearby overnight base and day outings. Les Pardines provides a gentler forest-and-lake itinerary; the Cortals and higher routes towards the Pessons area need a different assessment of weather, access and walking ability.
Use the official Les Pardines–Engolasters route to choose your starting point. Engolasters can be visited through itineraries associated with Encamp and Escaldes-Engordany; check the actual access route rather than assuming a single shared trailhead.
Camping inside the destination
An authorized campsite inside the proposed high-mountain destinations was not verified. Use a serviced valley campsite and visit by day, or arrange a suitable refuge booking. A car park at a resort, Cortals or Les Pardines does not establish permission to stay overnight.
For tent camping outside a licensed site, obtain the relevant parish’s current instruction. The official motorhome guidance distinguishes daytime parking from authorized overnight areas. Do not apply another country’s overnight rules in Andorra.
Nearby free camping
No authorized free tent site was verified for the suggested bases. Ask Encamp about any specific permission, group limit and maximum stay before setting out. A picnic area or unguarded hut is not automatically a campsite with water, toilets or reserved space.
For a Madriu-related trek, consult the valley manager and identify the parish crossed by the exact overnight location. Keep vehicle access and tent permissions separate.
Nearby paid camping
Santa Creu in Canillo is a seasonal nearby option; see its opening dates, reservation requirements and published price example in the Canillo guide. It is not a verified year-round base. For a capital-area alternative, Camping Valira publishes a 2026 tariff and advertises year-round operation.
Request the full total for all guests and your tent, car, caravan or motorhome. Ask about electricity, showers, drinking water, disposal and tourist tax. Reserve the exact equipment category; an equipment charge alone is not the nightly total.
Restaurants, museums and cultural stops
Borda del Tremat at Carrer Sant Miquel 23 in Encamp offers grilled meats and traditional mountain dishes. Confirm current hours and make a reservation when needed; this is a town meal rather than a restaurant at the upper trailhead.
The official parish cultural itinerary includes the automobile collection and Casa Cristo. The Electricity Museum and Engolasters hydroelectric route add a useful link between the lake landscape and Andorra’s infrastructure. Check tours and opening dates separately.
Practical information
From a central Canillo campsite estimate roughly 7–10 km / 10–20 minutes to Encamp, 12–18 km / 25–40 minutes towards the Pardines access, and around 20–30 km / 30–45 minutes towards Grau Roig before walking. From Valira, Encamp is roughly 9–12 km / 15–25 minutes. Traffic, road choice and the exact gate can change these estimates.
Choose summer or early autumn for straightforward high-level walking; lower paths may suit other snow-free periods. Carry rain protection, warm layers, water, maps and a headlamp. Resort lifts and buses have their own seasonal schedules. Leave enough time to return to your booked camp.
