EARPEACE Moto Original Review: Filters and Helmet Fit

This EARPEACE Moto Original review examines the reusable motorcycle earplugs with three interchangeable filter levels. The Original kit uses a double-cone design and small and standard earplug sizes. Its main appeal is a choice of filters without batteries or Bluetooth. However, the right choice still depends on fit and actual noise exposure.

Review method: This is a research-based assessment of manufacturer information, not a hands-on riding test. We have not measured attenuation, helmet comfort or intercom performance.

EARPEACE Moto Original review: identify the correct kit

EARPEACE’s Original Moto product page lists three small and three standard silicone earplugs, three filters at each protection level, and an aluminum case. Three individual plugs of a size means one pair plus a spare, not three pairs.

Confirm that your selected Amazon option says Moto Original. The Moto PRO is a separate product with different filters and a different earplug shape. Do not transfer specifications between them just because the listing groups related variants together.

Understand the three SNR filter levels

The manufacturer identifies clear filters as 17 dB SNR, red as 20 dB SNR and black as 26 dB SNR. These are published laboratory ratings, not guaranteed reductions for every rider. We have not independently tested them.

  • Clear: 17 dB SNR, labeled Medium.
  • Red: 20 dB SNR, labeled High.
  • Black: 26 dB SNR, labeled Max.

The values describe alternative configurations. Do not add them together or assume the kit provides 63 dB of reduction. Also, SNR and the US NRR are different rating systems; compare documented results on the same basis.

Do not select a filter by road speed alone. Helmet turbulence, riding position, windscreen setup and duration can change exposure. Likewise, simply subtracting an SNR number from an assumed wind level cannot establish a safe ride.

For general guidance, NIOSH recommends individual quantitative fit testing to assess the attenuation workers receive. A comfortable fit and a quieter impression are useful observations, but they are not an individual attenuation measurement.

Fit before checking helmet comfort

Use the manufacturer’s fitting instructions. They explain how to hold the removal tab during insertion and warn against pushing the plug farther inward after releasing it. Avoid force and over-insertion.

Try the supplied sizes before a trip. Your ears may need different sizes. Next, put on your helmet while stationary and check whether padding moves the plugs or creates pressure. Repeat the check after removing and replacing the helmet. Do not modify protective padding to make clearance.

This EARPEACE Moto Original review does not verify comfort beneath any specific helmet. A low profile may be appealing, but your helmet and ear shape still determine how the combination feels. Resolve pain or a loose fit before riding.

Intercoms and important road sounds

EARPEACE markets the filters for riding communication. That does not guarantee every horn, siren, voice or navigation instruction will remain audible. We have not tested alert recognition or speech clarity on the road.

Check communication needs in a controlled setting. Do not turn intercom audio up simply to overcome wind noise, and make adjustments after stopping safely. Follow local requirements for riding equipment and audio use.

Cleaning and campsite storage

EARPEACE directs users to remove the filters before washing dirty earplugs in warm soapy water. Let the plugs dry fully before reinstalling filters. Replace plugs that show wear or damage.

Keep the small components together during a camping trip. An aluminum case is convenient storage, but do not assume it is waterproof. Pack spare parts where rain, dust and wet clothing will not contaminate them. Check replacement-filter compatibility before ordering accessories.

EARPEACE Moto Original review: verdict

The Original offers clearly identified SNR options, two sizes and a compact case in a passive kit. That makes it worth comparing for riders who want interchangeable filters. The practical decision is whether it fits securely and provides appropriate attenuation for your exposure, rather than whether it carries the largest number.
