Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 Review: Chrome Motorcycle Disc Lock

Affiliate disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

This Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 review covers the chrome disc lock, manufacturer model 000877 and Amazon ASIN B008GBRAVC. It is a mechanical rotor lock with a reminder cable. For motorcycle camping, correct brake-disc fit matters more than assuming that a compact lock is universal.

We checked Amazon and Kryptonite’s official product page on October 30, 2026. We have not installed the lock or tested its attack resistance or durability. The buyer must independently verify compatibility with the exact motorcycle, rotor and surrounding brake components.

Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 review: manufacturer specifications

Kryptonite identifies model 000877 as the Keeper 5-S2 Disc Lock Chrome. Its official page lists a 5.5 mm locking pin, a maximum rotor insertion distance of 41.5 mm and a maximum rotor thickness of 6.0 mm. Listed weight is 0.56 kg, approximately 1.24 lb.

The manufacturer also lists an orange reminder cable, two stainless steel keys and a disc-style cylinder. Check the selected package and consult the official instructions before using it.

Resolve the 5 mm versus 5.5 mm wording

The Amazon feature list describes a 5 mm pin, while Kryptonite specifies 5.5 mm for model 000877. Do not assume that a rotor hole accepting a 5 mm pin will accept this lock.

Use the manufacturer dimensions as the starting point and obtain confirmation if your fit is close. Measure the actual rotor opening, thickness and distance from the edge. Never force the locking pin or modify a brake rotor to make a security accessory fit.

Three dimensions determine rotor fit

First, the locking pin needs sufficient clearance through a suitable rotor hole. Second, the rotor must fit within the lock’s permitted thickness. Third, the insertion reach must allow the pin to align with that hole.

Also check nearby caliper, wheel and sensor clearances. The listed dimensions do not establish permission to mount at every point on every disc. Consult the motorcycle and lock instructions for an appropriate location.

If the supplier cannot confirm compatibility, choose a product with a suitable documented fit rather than improvising. A small pin is not proof of universal motorcycle compatibility.

Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 review: security limitations

A correctly installed disc lock obstructs normal wheel rotation. However, it does not tether the motorcycle to a fixed object or provide tracking. It should not be treated as a guarantee against theft.

The manufacturer uses high-security wording for the cylinder, but this review does not establish an independent attack-resistance grade. We have not tested cutting, manipulation or removal resistance. Check any certification required by your insurer against the exact model.

Assess the parking location and the complete security arrangement at your destination. A familiar brand name does not remove the need for that assessment.

The reminder cable is a departure prompt

The orange cable is intended to remind you that the disc lock is fitted. It is not presented here as a rated security tether. Follow the instructions for arranging it so that removal becomes part of your departure routine.

Before moving the motorcycle, visually confirm that both lock and cable are removed and stored. Do not roll or ride with the lock attached. Keep the spare key separately according to your travel routine.

Mechanical operation and outdoor care

The reviewed model is a mechanical disc lock; no alarm feature is listed for it. Do not confuse it with a similarly named Keeper Alarm model. Confirm the product number when ordering.

Kryptonite describes the lock as waterproof, while Amazon uses weatherproof wording. We have not tested exposure or corrosion resistance. Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance guidance rather than assuming the lock needs no care.

Inspect the mechanism and keys as instructed. If operation becomes difficult or damage is visible, obtain manufacturer guidance instead of forcing the key.

How it compares with other designs

The IRON JIA’S disc lock review covers another mechanical rotor-mounted design. The Mathtoxyz review covers a model with an advertised alarm. We have not performed comparative attack testing, so this is a feature distinction rather than a strength ranking.

A helmet lock such as Kewig serves a different equipment-security task. It should not be assumed to immobilize the motorcycle.

Pre-purchase checklist

  • Confirm model 000877 and the chrome variant.
  • Check the official 5.5 mm pin specification.
  • Verify rotor thickness against the listed 6.0 mm maximum.
  • Measure insertion reach against the listed 41.5 mm maximum.
  • Check nearby brake components and approved mounting guidance.
  • Read the instructions and remove the device before every departure.

Verdict: documented dimensions help the fit decision

This Kryptonite Keeper 5-S2 review finds useful manufacturer fit information, alongside a pin-size discrepancy in Amazon’s wording. Confirm those dimensions against your motorcycle before buying. Its practical suitability depends on correct installation and a complete parking security plan; its resistance to attack remains untested here.
