Marlborough camping planning starts with the actual overnight product, land manager and travel dates. This guide introduces selected nature and cultural options in Marlborough, New Zealand; it is not an exhaustive list of towns or campgrounds. Distinguish a tent pitch, a motorhome site and supplied accommodation before reserving.
Marlborough camping: nature and activities
Momorangi Bay provides a Queen Charlotte Sound setting for appropriate shore and small-craft activities. Wind, sea conditions and personal ability determine what is suitable. Check current Marlborough road updates before using Queen Charlotte Drive.
Designated camping and paid stays
Momorangi Bay Campground requires reservations. February 9–December 25 nightly rates are NZ$25 adult/NZ$12.50 child unpowered, NZ$28/NZ$14 powered. December 26–February 8 rates are NZ$27/NZ$13.50 and NZ$30/NZ$15 respectively. Children are 5–17; under-fives are free. December 26–January 11 has a two-adult minimum site charge. UV-treated tap water, kitchen and coin-operated showers/laundry are listed; bring cookware.
Free camping, permissions and stay limits
The DOC Campsite Pass is excluded December 26–February 8. No free alternative or confirmed numeric maximum stay was established here. Check the actual site, holiday conditions and full quote instead of assuming a pass covers every night.
Tents, cars and motorhomes
Confirm the booking category and stand dimensions for your actual equipment. Check toilets, drinking water, cooking facilities, showers, electricity and approved waste disposal individually. A nonpowered site does not include a supplied tent, and a parked car is not automatically an authorized overnight stay. Ask about hire equipment separately.
Culture and interpretation
Marlborough Museum at Brayshaw Heritage Park, Blenheim, offers provincial-history interpretation. Its published public opening is Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, 11am–3pm, subject to change. Confirm before travel; archives and other park attractions have separate access.
Restaurants and food planning
Plan the campsite as self-catering. No current named restaurant menu beside the selected pitch was verified. Buy food before the final approach and confirm drinking-water and cooking arrangements. Town dining requires its own journey and opening check; it is not an assumed campground facility.
Season, distances and equipment
DOC places the campground 13km from Picton and 17km from Havelock on Queen Charlotte Drive. It is unsuitable for arrivals after 8pm or departures before 7am; plan ferry connections accordingly. Blenheim museum travel is separate from the ferry approach and needs its own route estimate.
Dated sources and final checks
Research checked October 29, 2026. Prices are New Zealand dollars and apply only to the stated product, age group and season. Reconfirm the complete total, extras and booking conditions directly before paying. Where no numeric maximum stay was verified, ask the manager rather than assuming unlimited occupancy.
Check the national guide’s official weather, DOC and freedom-camping sources before departure. Use current local alerts for the selected site and activity. Respect mana whenua and community hosts, protect wildlife and carry out waste where required. Pack footwear, weather protection, lighting and the supplies your actual stay needs.
