Queensland camping offers a useful starting point for planning designated overnight stays, natural places and cultural visits in Australia. This guide introduces selected sites within Queensland; it does not catalogue every town or campground. Use the named manager’s current booking information to choose the right pitch and dates.
Queensland camping: nature and activities
Girraween combines granite formations, open forest and walking routes around Castle Rock and the Pyramid. Choose a walk using the official map, track grade and current alerts. A camping reservation does not establish that every summit route is open or suitable for every visitor.
Paid camping and facilities
Castle Rock tent camping lists conventional-vehicle access, flush toilets, picnic tables and shower cubicles requiring your own shower. The information building is about 300m away. Select the correct tent, trailer or accessible product; a tent booking is not a caravan reservation. Queensland Parks booking information publishes A$7.75 per person/night or A$31 per family/night, including GST. The family definition is one or two adults and accompanying under-18s, maximum eight people; under-fives are free. Book and pay for the permit before arrival.
Free camping and maximum stay
Castle Rock is paid designated camping. No free alternative with verified permission and maximum stay was established for this article. Check the selected product for its current length-of-stay conditions and occupancy; do not transfer another park’s rules to Girraween.
Tents, cars and motorhomes
Book the actual camping product for your equipment. Check stand dimensions, power, accessible facilities and waste disposal before travelling with a caravan or motorhome. Ordinary vehicle entry does not establish permission to sleep in a car, and an unpowered pitch does not include tent rental. Confirm any equipment hire separately.
Culture and interpretation
Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery in Weeroona Park offers regional art and changing exhibitions. It is a separate town visit, not inside the campground. The gallery lists Tuesday–Friday and weekend opening, with Monday closure on its contact page. Verify the programme for the actual date.
Restaurants and supplies
Treat the campground as self-catering. Check your selected site’s cooking rules, bring water and organize shopping before entering the park. Stanthorpe dining requires a separate drive and current venue check; no named restaurant menu or meal price beside the pitch was verified in this research.
Season, distances and equipment
The park gives a road distance of about 260km from Brisbane and an indicative 3.5-hour journey; stops, traffic and conditions change that estimate. The campground has specific arrival and departure times. Check these and any restoration closures when booking. Bring warm layers as well as sun protection for the Granite Belt, and use current forecasts rather than a generic Queensland beach-season assumption.
Dated sources and booking checks
Research checked October 28, 2026. Prices are in Australian dollars and depend on the stated product, age group and dates. Reconfirm the final quote, park entry, extra occupants and any concession eligibility before paying. Read the Australia camping weather and fire-information sources and the local manager’s latest alerts before departure.
Carry suitable footwear, sun protection, lighting, weather layers and the supplies required by your booking. Keep wildlife wild, respect other campers and use approved waste facilities. Follow local signs and access closures; a reservation is not permission to enter a closed track.
