Gilgit Baltistan camping ranges from furnished desert glamps near Skardu to much more demanding mountain expeditions. Start with a documented accommodation type and a permitted site. This is a Pakistan-administered region, not one of the country’s four provinces; its wider territorial status is disputed.
Travel warning — reviewed 24 October 2026: The U.S. advises reconsidering travel to Pakistan. For Gilgit-Baltistan, check registration, permits and local security. UK advice excludes a Karakoram Highway section between Mansehra and Chilas; do not assume every approach is suitable. Read U.S. travel advice and UK regional advice.
Nature and destination context
Katpana’s cold-desert setting near Skardu offers a different experience from a long high-altitude trek. Hunza’s heritage and mountain landscapes require their own travel plan. Do not append remote valleys or a border excursion to a short stay without checking permission, access and the time needed to return.
Gilgit Baltistan camping: documented stays and limitations
Glamp Katpana’s operator website advertises furnished glamps and a dome at Katpana desert and lake. Confirm the exact unit, bathroom, heating, bedding and transfer arrangements. An operator listing is a documented lead, not a direct inspection or a guarantee of present availability.
Free camping and overnight permission
The tourism department says camping uses designated sites and requires its permission. Read the official camping and trekking FAQ. No unrestricted free public site was verified. Do not assume Deosai overnight camping is available: conflicting promotional and closure information requires current written park confirmation.
Prices and the trip budget
On 24 October 2026, the site advertised Standard Glamp Bronze at PKR 16,500 per night, discounted to PKR 14,025 for its 1 October–15 November 2026 offer, for two people with breakfast. Confirm eligibility, tax, cancellation terms and your final dates directly. Do not carry that promotional price into a later season.
For any future booking that is appropriate under the current advice, request the precise location, occupancy, payment terms and services in writing. Ask which authority approves overnight use and whether your vehicle and equipment are accepted. No motorhome hookups, dump station or universal car-camping entitlement was verified for this guide.
Food and dining
The operator advertises an on-site glamp diner with local and international food. Breakfast is mentioned in the accommodation offer; verify whether other meals are extra. Ask about current menu choices and dietary needs rather than assuming every advertised ingredient is available on the night you stay.
Culture and heritage
The Aga Khan Development Network describes restoration work at northern heritage sites, including Altit, Baltit, Shigar and Khaplu. Choose a site that fits the actual base and obtain visiting details separately. A conservation award or tentative UNESCO listing is not the same as World Heritage inscription.
Access, season and equipment
Ask an experienced licensed provider to assess the flight or road approach and allow contingency days. Do not use an old drive time to force a tight onward connection. For trekking, establish the exact route, visitor permissions, staff, emergency communications and suitable insurance before making a deposit.
A high valley, a cold desert and an expedition camp need different preparation. Confirm temperatures, snowfall and road status for the chosen dates. Published promotions at one property do not establish that every mountain park is open. Pack for the actual overnight conditions and keep a confirmed room alternative.
Plan with current information
Keep the travel warning, accommodation listing and overnight authorization as separate checks. A scenic photograph or an advertised package cannot answer all three. Carry out waste, protect water sources and follow the land manager’s fire rules. Use our Pakistan camping guide to compare the regional information before considering a trip.
