Southeast Slovenia camping: choose your base
Camping Bela Krajina at Podzemelj: The campsite offers a Kolpa-side base by Podzemelj. Choose a touring pitch or the exact prepared accommodation type and confirm the seasonal dates, power and sanitary facilities. River access must be checked against actual conditions.
Camping prices and reservations
A current numerical pitch tariff was not verified for this guide. Request a dated complete quote for people, equipment, electricity, tourist tax and any registration fee. Accommodation-only and activity packages should be compared separately. Check the operator’s information.
Before payment, confirm the dimensions of your tent or vehicle, pitch access, the people included and cancellation conditions. Ask separately about drinking-water filling, waste disposal and electricity capacity. Facilities for prepared accommodation should not be assumed available to every touring pitch.
Nature and cultural visits
The regional tourism board describes Kolpa Landscape Park along the Croatian border. Build a relaxed riverside itinerary with authorised access points. Swimming, canoeing and fishing have different conditions and requirements; arrange the activity you actually intend to do.
Podzemelj’s archaeological heritage around Kučar adds a nearby cultural dimension. Use the regional visitor information to choose a permitted route, and avoid treating an archaeological landscape as an unrestricted exploration or collecting area. Official visitor information.
Where to eat
The regional tourism board lists Bela Krajina Restaurant and Hotel as a meal option in Metlika. Confirm its current menu and service hours. The campsite also has dining information; check what is operating during your dates rather than relying on a summer brochure. Dining information.
Distances and a realistic day plan
Podzemelj to Metlika is broadly 8–12 km and 10–20 minutes each way as a planning estimate. Keep a longer Novo Mesto or Kočevsko excursion separate from a relaxed Kolpa day.
Keep the first day flexible for arrival and setting up. On the next day, choose one main outdoor outing and leave enough time for meals and the return journey. Check opening hours before adding a museum to the same day.
Free camping and overnight permissions
No authorised free overnight location was verified for this itinerary. Use a confirmed campsite or designated motorhome stop and follow its registration, fee and stay-limit rules. A quiet car park or riverbank does not establish permission to camp.
Season and equipment
Match travel dates to the campsite’s confirmed season. Spring and autumn may suit lower-level walks, while Alpine and underground visits need their own clothing and conditions checks. Carry rain protection, layers, sturdy footwear, water and a first-aid kit. Follow current fire restrictions and the host’s cooking rules.
Compare the regions in our Slovenia camping guide before deciding how many bases your available days can comfortably support.
