Aukštaitija Camping Guide: Forest Walks and Anykščiai

Aukštaitija camping brings together rivers, pinewoods and small towns in northern and eastern Lithuania. An Anykščiai-area base works well for a first visit, with time for a nature walk, a museum and an unhurried evening at camp.

Aukštaitija camping: nature and outdoor visits

Explore the Anykščiai pinewood and its Treetop Walking Path. The local tourism tree route links the Puntukas area with the treetop attraction. Allow two to three hours for a gentle woodland visit, including stops. Check admission, opening hours and any weather closure before travelling.

Established camping and published rates

Žalioji stotelė offers established tent camping beside the Šventoji in Anykščiai district. Its undated price page lists €12 per person for camping: €24 for two people before extras. The page explicitly states that prices exclude VAT and lists a €1 per person nightly tourist levy, with exemptions. Ask for the final tax-inclusive quote and confirm the billing period, sanitary facilities, drinking water and power. Tent camping is advertised; motorhome access and servicing require a separate enquiry. Sauna, hot tub and paddling are additional services.

Free camping and permission

No specific free overnight site was verified for this itinerary. Choose the established option above, or confirm a designated alternative with its manager. A picnic area, viewpoint or car park does not establish overnight permission. The national guide links official camping rules and maps; check the signs and restrictions at your exact destination.

Culture and local heritage

The Horse Museum at Niūronys, about 8 km from Anykščiai, adds rural and equestrian history to the trip. Book any workshop separately and check museum hours rather than assuming all activities run daily.

Where to eat

The restaurant at Nykščio namai & SPA, Liudiškių g. 18 in Anykščiai, offers a sit-down menu including salads, pancakes, burgers and hot dishes. Check the current menu and reserve when travelling as a group.

Practical Aukštaitija camping information

The treetop attraction is a separate countryside outing from the town and museum. Confirm the exact Žalioji stotelė entrance with the operator before calculating your daily transfers; this guide does not assume the campsite is in central Anykščiai. For broad planning, Vilnius to Anykščiai is approximately 110 km and around two hours by car, depending on route and traffic. May to September is a practical tent-travel window. Bring waterproof shoes, a warm sleeping bag, insect repellent and offline maps.

A relaxed two-night stay

Arrive early enough to check your pitch and facilities in daylight. Keep the first evening close to camp, then devote the full day to rivers, pinewoods and rural heritage. Save a museum or café visit for wet weather and leave time for meals and local transfers. Before moving on, refill water where permitted, dispose of waste correctly and check the next site’s arrival arrangements.

Source and tariff check: 16 October 2026. These are published source checks rather than live booking quotes. An undated price has no confirmed validity year. Confirm the full amount, operating dates, access and facilities directly with the operator before paying. Distances and driving times are approximate planning estimates.
