Estonian Islands Camping Guide: Saaremaa Camping, Oak Woods & Kuressaare

This Estonian Islands camping guide focuses on a Saaremaa itinerary based in Kuressaare, with woodland walks, a castle and local fish dishes. Stay at one base and leave time for nature, food and culture. Sources and published tariffs checked on 16 October 2026. Prices are euros (EUR); an undated tariff is identified as such and must be confirmed for your travel dates.

Estonian Islands camping guide: nature and walks

Choose the Loode Oak Forest trail near Nasva for a nature outing close to Kuressaare. Follow marked paths and respect wildlife. The nearby birdwatching tower overlooks the bay and coastal shallows. Saaremaa is the base in this guide; Hiiumaa, Muhu and smaller islands need their own accommodation and transport planning.

Established camping and checked prices

Piibelehe Caravan Park and Camping in Kuressaare lists EUR 28 per night for a caravan with one or two people, including shower and electricity. An additional person is EUR 6; children aged 0–5 are listed free. Tent camping costs EUR 9 per person per night with shower and gas-stove use; garden car parking adds EUR 5. Two tent campers with garden parking therefore total EUR 23. The caravan entrance is Karikakra põik 3, with eight touring spaces and toilet-emptying facilities. These undated published prices were checked on 16 October 2026. Confirm opening, space and any additional charges before taking the ferry.

Ask the operator to confirm the complete charge for your party and equipment. Check pitch access, arrival times, drinking water, showers and waste disposal before booking. A price page does not guarantee availability or year-round touring services.

Free authorized camping and alternatives

Meiuste RMK Campsite is a designated northern Saaremaa camping option, a separate island outing from Kuressaare. Check its current site record, any charges and posted stay limits before travelling there. No nearby free serviced pitch in Kuressaare has been verified. Do not treat a coastal car park as equivalent to an authorised overnight motorhome site.

Restaurant and local food

Ku-Kuu Fish Restaurant is in Kuressaare Castle Park at the historic Kuursaal. It provides an island-focused fish meal during a town day. Confirm seasonal service, menu and reservations before relying on it for dinner.

Culture beyond the campsite

Kuressaare Episcopal Castle gives the itinerary a substantial historic stop. Check current museum exhibitions and opening, then allow time for the surrounding park. The castle outing combines naturally with the nearby restaurant.

Season, access and equipment

Summer is the simplest tent and ferry planning period; shoulder seasons need direct campsite confirmation. Loode is roughly 7–10 km from the camping base, around 10–15 minutes by car, depending on the trailhead. The castle is a local outing of a few kilometres. These are estimates. Check Praamid for mainland ferry bookings, route conditions and vehicle dimensions. Leave time for port check-in and do not assume a road journey reaches every island without a ferry.

Pack waterproof layers, warm bedding, walking shoes, insect protection, drinking water and offline maps. Bring a headtorch for dark evenings and use designated waste facilities. Check RMK’s current rules before forest camping or using a fire site. Respect local closures, quiet hours and sensitive ground.
