Buskerud Camping Guide: Hokksund River Camping and Industrial Heritage

This Buskerud camping guide centres on Hokksund and the Drammenselva, with a cultural day trip to Blaafarveværket. Build a relaxed stay around the named campsite, with time for local scenery, food and culture. Sources and published tariffs checked on 16 October 2026. Prices are Norwegian kroner (NOK); a checked page is not a guarantee of future availability.

Buskerud camping guide: nature and walks

Start with a short walk near the river in Hokksund and follow reception’s advice on safe local paths. The campsite operator describes riverside recreation and fishing activity, but fishing requires checking the current licence, season and access rules. Keep clear of slippery banks and fast water. A gentle town-and-river day works well after a longer drive.

Established camping and checked prices

Hokksund Camping lists NOK 395 nightly for a caravan or motorhome, NOK 280 for a tent with bicycle and NOK 310 for a tent with car. Electricity is NOK 95 extra, making the motorhome example NOK 490 with power. The short-stay tariff has no separate year label, although seasonal entries mention 2026: reconfirm it. Toilets, drinking water and a disposal station are provided. Touring pitches are drop-in only; in-season arrival starts at noon and departure is before noon. Reception and café are listed for 15 May–30 September, so arrange off-season access directly.

Confirm the total for your dates, party and equipment before committing to a stay. Ask about pitch dimensions, vehicle access, electricity, showers, drinking water and wastewater disposal. Check arrival procedures and cancellation terms. Seasonal facilities and tariffs can change, and a published price does not establish year-round opening.

Free authorized camping nearby

No specific free overnight site has been verified for this itinerary. Ask the local authority or land manager about your exact proposed location, permissions and stay limits. Use the established campsite when overnight access is unclear. See our national guide for sourced guidance on tent camping and motor vehicles.

Restaurant and local food

The Hokksund Camping café serves lunch and dinner during its stated reception season. It is an on-site convenience rather than a guaranteed year-round restaurant. Ask for the day’s menu and kitchen hours; bring your own meal if arriving after seasonal service ends.

Check the current menu and kitchen hours before making a special journey. Carry food for arrival when local service is seasonal, and use designated cooking areas at your campsite.

Culture beyond the campsite

Visit Blaafarveværket near Åmot for the former cobalt works, industrial landscape and art programme. Check the current opening schedule, as the works, mine area and related attractions need separate planning. A museum day can include short walks around the site without becoming a mountain excursion.

Practical season, access and equipment

The operator places the campsite about 500 metres from Hokksund centre. For Blaafarveværket, allow approximately 25–35 km and 30–45 minutes driving, depending on parking and route; these are estimates. Late spring to early autumn suits the fullest service. Pack rainwear and sturdy shoes for outdoor heritage areas, and verify all October arrangements before travelling.

Pack waterproof layers, warm bedding, walking shoes, drinking water, a headtorch and offline maps. Match your equipment to the route and forecast rather than the calendar alone. Respect quiet hours, use designated waste facilities and leave fragile ground undisturbed.
