This Burgenland camping guide combines Lake Neusiedl at Podersdorf, Seewinkel nature and local heritage. Use the authorized base below for a regional stay with time for nature, local food and culture. All prices are in euros; research and published tariffs were checked on 16 October 2026.
Burgenland camping guide: nature and routes
The Neusiedler See–Seewinkel National Park introduces a landscape of shallow waters, reed beds and bird habitats. Start with the visitor centre at Illmitz or a guided outing, keeping to designated routes and viewing points. Binoculars are useful; give birds space and avoid disturbing shore habitat. A short local lakeside walk at Podersdorf can fill the arrival day without a longer transfer.
Authorized camping and checked tariffs
Strandcamping Podersdorf, Strandplatz 19, lists its 2026 season as 20 March–22 November. The official operator page prices a category S pitch including electricity and two people at €41 in season A, €45 in B and €47 in C. Season A includes 14 September onwards, B is May–June and C July–13 September. The operator’s 2026 tariff PDF, hosted by a camping directory, lists tourist tax of €4.50 per guest aged 18 or over, additional to the package. A separate two-person tent-only package starts at €34 in season A. Confirm the category, extras and booking deposit.
Confirm the complete charge for your party, equipment and dates before booking. Check reception times, pitch dimensions, seasonal services and any minimum stay. Published examples do not guarantee availability.
Free overnight camping
No specific free authorized overnight site has been verified for this itinerary. Use the established campsite, or confirm permission with the relevant local authority and landowner before choosing another location. A scenic parking area or picnic site does not by itself establish permission to camp.
Restaurant and local food
Gasthaus zur Dankbarkeit in Podersdorf is a regional dining option. Check its current menu and reservations directly. The associated Podersdorfer Weinstuben, Winklergasse 30, highlights local wine and Seewinkel-style food. Arrange a walking or other suitable return if tasting wine.
Culture beyond the campsite
The Podersdorf windmill adds a local heritage visit. Check current tour arrangements rather than assuming the building is open continuously. Pair it with a village walk and a meal on a day separate from the national-park outing.
Practical itinerary and access
Podersdorf to the Illmitz visitor-centre area is roughly 15–25 km and 20–35 minutes by car, depending on the route; check live navigation and cycle options. Use separate days for the lakeside, birdwatching and village culture. Wind can be strong on exposed shore paths. The camping gates close 22:00–06:00, and reception hours shorten later in the season; confirm arrival arrangements.
Bring waterproof clothing, suitable walking shoes, water, warm bedding, a torch and an offline route map. Check weather and local notices before a longer outing. Use designated waste and wastewater facilities, respect quiet hours and follow current fire restrictions.
